Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area

7.2
4.4/5
4.8k reviews
Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area is located in the heart of the Pearl River Delta. It is an ancient volcano that lay dormant for tens of millions of years, with its main peak standing over 300 m above sea level. It is often said that "a trip to Lingnan is incomplete without visiting Xiqiao Mountain." As early as over 6,000 years ago, ancient inhabitants quarried stone here to make tools. Archaeologists have ranked this site alongside the Shanxi Emakou site as one of China's two major Neolithic stone tool workshops in the north and south. Thus, Xiqiao Mountain is hailed as the "beacon of Pearl River civilization." During the Ming Dynasty, Confucian scholars such as Zhan Ruoshui and Fang Xianfu established academies here to teach, earning it the title of "renowned mountain of Neo-Confucianism." The layering of prehistoric ruins, ancient quarrying sites, and historical academy relics within a single mountain is a rare cultural depth among Lingnan's famous peaks. The main views along the mountain unfold through peculiar rocks, secluded caves, and mountain lakes. The bronze statue of Guanyin on Daxian Peak stands over 60 m tall, serving as the landmark view of the entire mountain. From the summit, the open vista overlooks vast stretches of mulberry-dyke fishpond landscapes below. Baiyun Cave clusters Ming and Qing dynasty structures like Sanhu Academy, Kuiguang Tower, and Yunquan Immortal Hall alongside cliff carvings. Kang Youwei spent his youth studying here, and the cave's "Thousand-foot waterfall" was listed among the "Eight views of Yangcheng" as early as the Qing dynasty. The ancient quarrying site at Shiyan Rock features deep caverns, with underwater traces of ancestral stone extraction still visible today. Jiulong Rock's massive boulders interconnect through nine passages—bright outside yet dark within—creating a spelunking adventure akin to navigating a spiral shell. Tianhu Lake in the northwest, formed in an ancient volcanic crater, is embraced by emerald peaks on three sides. Since the Ming dynasty, locals have practiced the unique "mid-mountain dragon boat" tradition, and today, dragon boat races still take place on the lake during the Dragon Boat Festival. Xiqiao Mountain is also the hometown of martial arts master Huang Feihong. The Huang Feihong Lion Dance and Martial Arts Hall at the foot of the mountain was built on the original site of the Huang family ancestral temple, regularly featuring lion dance and martial arts performances, serving as a window to experience southern lion dance and kung fu culture. The attraction covers a large area, with sightseeing buses and cable cars connecting various attractions. The cable car links Baiyun Cave and Tianhu Lake, saving energy while offering scenic views. Visitors who prefer walking can follow the hiking trails to explore canyon views like Cuiyan and Shiyan Rock. During flower seasons, attractions like the Square Bamboo Garden, Camellia Garden, and Peach Blossom Garden are also worth visiting along the way.Foshan · 18.3km from downtown

Xiqiao Mountain is easily accessible and has beautiful scenery. There are many small scenic areas and a spectacular lion dance performance. From the top of the mountain, you can see a panoramic view of the Buddha statue. It was probably a quarry in ancient times, and there are many relics of ancient stone quarrying.

A visit to the Ancestral Temple is a must when in Foshan. First, the three daily martial arts and lion dance performances are definitely worth the ticket price. There are also many interesting exhibition halls that will broaden your knowledge. The scenic area also offers free guided tours several times a day, providing additional information. Although the area isn't large, a thorough visit will take about three hours (about an hour for a quick overview), so it's recommended to allow ample time for your exploration.

The exterior doesn't look impressive, but once inside, it's a hidden gem. Small, compact, and exquisitely designed, it's similar to Suzhou gardens. There are many exhibition halls and artifacts to see. I was very satisfied.

I really enjoyed it. The animals seemed very free and roamed around, allowing for close-up observation. My daughter fed the giraffes and flamingos, which was a wonderful experience. I also loved the spider monkeys. The zookeeper was lovely and very patient in explaining things. I would definitely go again if I had the chance.

I recommend riding the Ferris wheel at night for better views. It's not too crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. The surrounding area has excellent commercial facilities, and it's convenient to find places to eat. The beef and clay pot rice are delicious. You can stay at a nearby hotel at night, and parking is easy.

It's pretty good, a cozy and charming little place. My child tried pottery making. The price is a bit high, but overall it's okay. Parents who haven't been to similar places before can take their children to experience it!

Foshan Lingnan Xintiandi Travelogue Date: March 10, 2026 My wife, her sister, her sister's best friend, and I visited Foshan Lingnan Xintiandi from 4 PM until evening. It's truly a fantastic tourist attraction; the environment is comfortable, the architecture is unique, and the trees look like bonsai trees. Walking through it feels very culturally rich. The architecture of Lingnan Xintiandi is impressive. Many buildings are converted from traditional Lingnan-style houses and arcade buildings in Foshan's old town, preserving traditional elements such as blue bricks, carved wooden windows, and stone-paved roads, while integrating modern commercial and tourist facilities. Walking here, you can feel the intertwining of history and modernity. This area was originally Foshan's old town, and after restoration and renovation, it has become the comprehensive tourist attraction it is today, integrating culture, tourism, and commerce. It blends tradition and modernity, offering a wide variety of food options, from traditional Lingnan snacks to modern restaurants. We had dinner at a local restaurant inside, and the food was delicious, authentic, and satisfying. After our meal, we continued strolling around, buying some souvenirs. Many of the souvenirs at the stalls were handmade by the owners, showing their thoughtfulness. We also bought snacks and local drinks to enjoy as we walked, creating a lively atmosphere. There's also a very attractive clock tower here, one of the iconic buildings of Lingnan Xintiandi. Its design is inspired by traditional Lingnan pavilions and clock tower culture. It's antique and elegant during the day, and even more solemn and romantic when lit up at night. The clock tower is not only a great place for taking photos, but also symbolizes the historical continuation of Foshan's old city. Inside Xintiandi, you can also find some modern brand stores, such as Miniso. This is a chain store known for its affordable daily necessities and creative items. It has many practical and cute products, from home goods to stationery and accessories. It's a relaxing place to shop, and also suitable for buying small gifts or things you need for your trip. The surrounding area is also very lively. Besides the restaurants and bars inside Xintiandi, there are many shops outside where you can sit down and have a drink or a snack. As we walked, we passed the famous Ancestral Temple and the renowned Baozhilin Clinic in Foshan. Originally founded in Guangzhou by Huang Feihong in the late Qing Dynasty, Baozhilin was a medical clinic specializing in treating injuries and bruises, later becoming an important symbol of Lingnan medical culture. The Baozhilin clinics we saw in Foshan are mostly cultural exhibits, not the original sites, but they still carry the legendary stories of Lingnan martial arts and medicine. In the evening, we enjoyed beer and conversation at a bar, feeling relaxed and at ease with the nightlife. In summary, Foshan Lingnan Xintiandi is a great place that blends tradition and modernity, suitable for couples, families, and friends. It's recommended to visit in the evening to experience both the daytime scenery and the vibrant nighttime atmosphere. The food, shopping, clock tower, unique architecture, Miniso shops, and the nearby Ancestral Temple and Baozhilin Clinic are all highly recommended.

I think 300 yuan per person is great value for money. It includes a free cable car ride for a panoramic view of the entire park, and a free mini-train ride for a close-up look at the animals on the African savanna – you get to see everything from different angles. We also spent 300 yuan to drive through the park and get a more intimate look at the animals – a very immersive experience. It wasn't the weekend, so it wasn't too crowded. The park staff were very responsible in their explanations. We also ordered a three-person set meal inside the park, which was a bit pricey, but reasonable for the park's price.

The witch and Meng Po (the goddess of forgetfulness) brew a soup together, and the werewolf and the ghost bride parade together... It certainly fits the Halloween theme. Now all that's missing is Durrah (the headless ghost), the Nordic ghosts haven't arrived yet.
