La'aloa Beach Park is a renowned surfing destination in Hawaii, drawing crowds of surf enthusiasts. The sand atWaikīkī Beachwas actually brought in by humans, while the sand here is naturally formed and incredibly soft. It is also the only fine white sand beach in the Kailua-Kona area. When storms hit, they wash away the white sand on the shore, earning it the nickname the vanishing beach. The waves here can be quite large, so please prioritize your safety if you are not a strong swimmer.Kahaluu-Keauhou · 2.3km from Holualoa

South of Kona International Airport (KOA). Browse this seaside park and discover how early ancient Hawaiians survived on the rugged Kona coast. There are also two huge Hawaiian fish ponds that showcase the engineering prowess of the ancient Hawaiians. Wander the white sand of Honokohau Beach, which contrasts with the black lava shoreline. Look for local wildlife, including Hawaiian green turtles (honu), native birds, and perhaps monk seals basking on the beach.Kalaoa · 9km from Holualoa

What travellers say about Holualoa

SUNSHINE ONUS5 February 2026
4.0
- Fine White Sand: Boasting one of the few white sand beaches on the Big Island, the sand is soft and fine, a stark contrast to the common black volcanic rock beaches. - Calm Waters: A coral reef near the shore effectively reduces waves, making the water relatively calm, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and bodyboarding, and very family-friendly. - "Turtle Beach": This is a frequent haunt and resting place for green sea turtles (Honu). With luck, you might spot them on the beach or in the shallow water.

The seaside park is quite large and attracts many tourists. When we came, it was dusk and there were not many people. We were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset after staying there for a short while.

It is a park with relatively few tourists. The biggest attraction here is that you can see a lot of turtles. There are many species, big and small, which is very interesting. The sea view is also beautiful.
