Youning Temple, located in Sitan Village, Wushi Town, Huzhu County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province, was first built in 1604 (the 32nd year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty) under the supervision of the 7th Gyaltsen Living Buddha, Duan Yue Queji Gyatso. The temple complex is scattered on the southern slope of Longwang Mountain. At the foot of the mountain are large-scale buildings such as the Great Sutra Hall, the Exoteric Buddhist College, and the Esoteric Buddhist College, while smaller temples such as the Shakyamuni Buddha Hall and the Maitreya Buddha Hall are built on the mountain, all arranged in courtyard units. The temple currently retains religious sites such as the Exoteric Buddhist College, the Esoteric Buddhist College, the Lingying Hall of the Great Master Zhangjia, the Great Protector Hall, and the Dakini Buddha Hall, as well as a large open-air bronze statue of Tara and a large white stupa. The temple has undergone several destructions and reconstructions. In 1732 (the 10th year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty), it was bestowed the name "Youning Temple." In 1980, the government allocated funds to restore the main buildings, including the Great Sutra Hall and the Small Sutra Hall. As a Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, Youning Monastery is known as the "Mother of Monasteries in Northern Huangshui." It houses five major Living Buddha systems: Zhangjia, Tuguan, Songbu, Quezang, and Wang. It regularly holds religious activities such as the New Year Prayer Festival and the Scripture Contemplation Festival, including rituals like the "Jumping the Khmer" dance and the "Sun-drying the Giant Buddha." On March 5, 2013, it was listed as a seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
