Old City

Old City is a walled ancient city in the heart of Jerusalem. Covering less than 1 square kilometer, it is a place with a high concentration of holy sites for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Old City is traditionally divided into 4 different quarters, each with a distinct atmosphere: the Jewish Quarter has tidy streets and preserves the ruins of the Cardo from the Roman-Byzantine period; in the Christian Quarter, the Way of the Cross - Via Dolorosa, which extends from the Lion's Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, connects 14 stations. The final stations are located within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is believed to be the site of Jesus' crucifixion and burial and welcomes pilgrims from all over the world year-round; in the bustling area, the market streets extending inward from the Damascus Gate are lined with stalls selling spices, sweets, olive wood carvings, and more; the Armenian Quarter is much quieter, where painted ceramic workshops are a long-standing traditional craft. The Temple Mount, located on a high platform in the southeast of the Old City, stands apart from the 4 quarters. The golden-domed Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque are both located within this compound. The golden dome is particularly striking in the sunlight and is a highly recognizable landmark on the Old City's skyline; the Western Wall on the west side of the compound is a holy site for Jewish prayer, where many visitors tuck notes with their wishes into the cracks of the stones. The Old City is best explored on foot, with many cobblestone paths, steps, and slopes. When entering religious sites such as churches and mosques, please ensure your shoulders and knees are covered; early mornings and evenings have fewer crowds and softer light, making it easier to avoid the rush and capture beautiful photos.Jerusalem · 1.9km from downtown

Also known as Shechem Gate or Nablus Gate, it is located on the north side of the Old City of Jerusalem, on the edge of the Arab Bazaar. The existing gate was built in 1542 by Suleiman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire and has two towers. During Hadrian's time in the 2nd century AD, the Romans built a new gate. In front of the city gate stands a Roman Victory Column. The Arabic name of the Damascus Gate, "Pillar Gate", derives its name from it. During the British Mandate, the Roman gate was excavated, but no Victory Column was found.Jerusalem · 2.2km from downtown

Dome of the Rock is one of the oldest shrines in the world and the most prominent and famous landmark in Jerusalem. The grand dome is 54m high and 24m in diameter, with an octagonal shape and sides 21m long. Since its construction in the 7th century, it has undergone several renovations over the past millennium, transforming from a wooden roof into today's beautiful golden dome. The breathtaking scene of pilgrimage to Al Kaaba in Medina, where devout believers fill the space beyond the spires, domes, and cubic structures. In 1994, King Hussein of Jordan funded $6.5 million to cover it with 176 pounds of 24K pure gold leaf. The architectural structure is octagonal, making it a rare temple building without towering minarets. The dome is covered in real gold leaf, with a crescent-shaped emblem on top. The walls are built of marble and decorated with colorful mosaic patterns, with mosaic tile inscriptions above the walls. The interior of the dome is magnificent, and the white rock inside the railing beneath the dome is said to be the place where Abraham offered his son Isaac as a sacrifice.Jerusalem · 2.3km from downtown

The Wailing Wall, also known as the Western Wall, is a section of the second temple wall of the ancient Jewish state in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is also the only remaining site of the second temple wall. It is about 50 meters long and 18 meters high. become. Judaism regards the wall as the first holy place. For thousands of years, when Jews who have been living in all corners of the world return to the holy city of Jerusalem, they will come to this stone wall to pray in a low voice and cry about the suffering of exile. Called the "Wailing Wall". Security checks are required before entering the Wailing Wall, and then you enter a small square, at the end of which is the Wailing Wall. There is a fence in front of the Wailing Wall. Men and women pray separately. Tourists need to be the same as the locals. Men must wear the small paper hats distributed (you can get them for free when you enter the square), and women have to retreat and leave. You can see many moving scenes here. Some people are facing the wall here, saying something sadly; some people bow deeply and pray; some hold a Bible and pray silently; some people kiss the Wailing Wall; A white note with the words in their hearts was inserted into the crevices of the stone, because they believed that this letter to God would surely be received by God. Although you can take pictures here, it is recommended not to disturb those who pray, just watch it from a distance. Of course, not all scenes are heavy and sad, but there are also happy scenes. Jewish men's coming-of-age ceremonies will be held in front of the Wailing Wall, accompanied by their family members. Everyone cheers and blesses the boy, wishing him to become an adult on his birthday. After visiting the Wailing Wall, you can visit the Temple Mount on the side and the Dome of the Rock on the mountain.Jerusalem · 2.1km from downtown

A very interesting and lively place to get lost in. The old city is divided into different religious quarters so it's fascinating to see how the quarters differ and how everyone mingles.

In the north of the Old City of Jerusalem, it is said that Judas betrayed Jesus here. There is a tree that is more than 2,000 years old, which is very historical. There is also a stone word "peace" spelled on the ground in the courtyard. It is now also a church.

I was shocked when I saw it from the car. I ran over as soon as I got off the car. It was so beautiful. There were many big steps at the entrance where you could sit and rest. There were many policemen at the entrance. They were all very kind. But no matter how crowded the entrance was, once you entered it was the small commodity market.

The most dazzling symbol of the ancient city of Jerusalem, the glittering golden dome can be seen from afar, so it is also called the Golden Dome Mosque or the Dome of the Rock. It is also one of the oldest mosques in the world. It is a famous Islamic mosque and also a holy place for Islam. It is located in the Islamic holy place in the east of the old city. Muslims call it the Noble Temple, while Jews and Christians call it the Temple Mount.

The Heartbeat of Faith: An Evening at the Western Wall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Visiting the Western Wall (Kotel) in Jerusalem is not merely a sightseeing stop; it is an immersion into the "silent world" of tradition and the very epicenter of human hope. Following the path of the Via Dolorosa, I arrived at the Wall as evening began to fall—a time when the stones seem to glow with the weight of the prayers they hold.A Mosaic of BeliefOne cannot help but feel the overwhelming spiritual energy of this site. It is a profound experience to witness the shared significance of these stones—known as the Kotel to the Jewish people and the Al-Buraq Wall in Islamic tradition. The vast plaza, strictly divided between men’s and women’s sections, reflects a rigorous devotion that has remained unchanged for centuries.Stepping into the women’s section, I was struck by the atmosphere of sacred intimacy. I participated in the ancient ritual that has connected millions of souls across generations: writing a small note of hope and slipping it into a crevice in the ancient limestone. In that moment, among the tears and quiet chants of pilarims from all corners of the globe, I felt a deep connection to a divinity that transcends language.Beyond the Wall, exploring Jerusalem offers a fascinating encounter with the Haredi (ultra-religious) community. Walking through these neighborhoods feels like a journey back in time. I was captivated by the grace and modesty of the women, who elegantly preserve their traditions through the use of sheitels (wigs) or scarves. Our guide shared insightful reflections on how this community is evolving. While historically centered almost exclusively on Torah study, modern economic shifts are now seeing more members of this community enter the workforce—a historic transition that balances millennial identity with the demands of the modern world. My Tip: Visit in the late afternoon or evening. The lighting is more dramatic for photography.
