Jiayuguan Pass is located on the western section of the Ming Great Wall and was first built during the Ming Dynasty. Upon entering, the first thing you'll see is the Heishan Stone Carving Group, a group of modern stone carvings replicas that showcase the history and culture of Jiayuguan. The group comprises seven sections open to visitors: the Celebrity Inscriptions Garden, the Ancient Poetry Garden, the Chronicle Garden, the Story Garden, the Guerrilla General Stone Carving Garden, the Wei-Jin Brick Mural Stone Carving Garden, and the Heishan Stone Carving Garden. Continuing forward, you'll find the Jiayuguan Great Wall Museum, a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the Great Wall, showcasing the history, culture, artifacts, and scenery of the Great Wall and Jiayuguan. Further ahead lies the western core area. Before entering the fortress, you can first visit the Jiayuguan Cultural Relics attraction– Jiuyanquan Lake – on your left.Nine-Eyed Spring"The area is lush with water and grass, and boasts beautiful scenery, making it an ideal place for ancient garrisoning troops, raising horses, and defending the border." (Now...)Nine-Eyed SpringThe water rippled gently, crystal clear.Nine-Eyed SpringThe beauty of it lies in its tranquility and calm. The fortress is divided into an inner and outer city, with three main gate towers. The city walls also feature arrow towers, watchtowers, corner towers, pavilions, gate towers, and other structures. Inside the fortress are the General's Residence, the Well attraction, and the Wenchang attraction. Outside the east gate are the Guandi attraction, a memorial archway, and a theater, each with its own history and unique features, well worth visiting. Climbing the city walls and gazing into the distance, the Qilian Mountains stretch endlessly, and the vast Gobi grasslands below evoke a profound sense of historical grandeur.Jiayuguan · 5.3km from downtown
Jiayuguan Cultural Relics Scenic Area

Jiayuguan Cultural Relics Scenic Area

6.2
The Jiayuguan cultural relics scenic area includes three major attractions: Jiayuguan pass city, the overhanging great wall, and the first beacon tower of the great wall. It showcases the historical role of the Hexi corridor as a military barrier and a key town on the silk road, featuring the historical remains and sites of Jiayuguan's military defense system as its main view resources. The Guan City of Jiayuguan features a well-planned layout and excellent architectural design. It is divided into inner and outer cities, with three main grand gate towers and structures like arrow towers, enemy towers, corner towers, watchtowers, and sluice gate towers built along the city walls. The inner city serves as the core and main body of the Guan City, with a perimeter of 640 m and an area of 25,000 m². Outside the east and west gates of the inner city, there are protective barbicans, each covering over 500 m². The barbican gates all face south, and to the west of the western barbican lies the outer city wall, with a gate in the center facing west, inscribed with the characters "Jiayuguan" on its lintel. Key existing structures within the Guan City include the Residence of the Guerrilla General, the official well, Guandi Temple, an opera stage, and Wenchang Pavilion. The Hanging Great Wall is located 14 km northwest of Jiayuguan city, 8.4 km south of the Guan City of Jiayuguan, serving as a crucial component of Jiayuguan's military defense system. When Minister Zhai Luan inspected the Hexi defense system and found Jiayuguan's defenses inadequate, he petitioned the imperial court. Under the supervision of Li Han, the military defense officer of Suzhou, the northern and southern wings of Jiayuguan's Great Wall were constructed, known as the "Ming Wall and Hidden Wall." The Ming Wall ends at the "First Beacon Tower of the Great Wall" by the Taolai River south of the pass, while the Hidden Wall terminates at the Hanging Great Wall in the Shiguan Gorge north of the pass. Together, the Ming Wall and Hidden Wall act like a pair of iron wings guarding the Hexi Corridor for Jiayuguan. Thus, the Guan City, along with the northern and southern wings of the Great Wall and surrounding beacon towers, forms a complete military defense system. The first beacon tower of the Great Wall (also known as the first tower under heaven), as the westernmost beacon tower of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, was historically called the Taolai River beacon. It borders Jiuquan to the east, connects to the desert in the west, leans against Jiayuguan in the north, and faces the Qilian Mountains in the south. Standing on a nearly 56 m high cliff by the Taolai River, it is also the southernmost beacon tower of Jiayuguan's western Great Wall, earning the title "the most perilous beacon tower under heaven". The First Beacon Tower attraction mainly includes sightseeing spots such as the underground valley, viewing platform, Taolai inn, perilous suspension bridge, ancient-style military camp, drunken on the battlefield, and century dragon forest.Jiayuguan · 6.5km from downtown

The background oil painting of the scene of "drunk on the battlefield" depicts the magnificent frontier scenery of "smoke in the desert and the sunset on the long river", while the sculpture shows the cruelty, sadness and cruelty of the battle scene of "drunk on the battlefield, Lord Grim, a few people from ancient times." We were the last to enter the Overhanging Great Wall, practically having the whole place to ourselves. There was a slight sandstorm in Jiayuguan that day, but the Great Wall's location perfectly avoided it, making the whole experience very comfortable. Even an 80-year-old managed to slowly climb to the second watchtower – a truly satisfying experience! The next morning, it was raining at the First Beacon Tower of the Great Wall, so we didn't explore it in detail, but it was still a good experience with fewer people. The fortress was too crowded, so we rushed through. Of the three attractions, the Great Wall was actually the most satisfying. So, scenery isn't the only factor; it's closely related to the weather, your mood, and how crowded it is. Overall, it was a good trip. We headed straight to the airport at 1 pm, a very satisfying conclusion to our Northwest China journey.

The Overhanging Great Wall was too crowded; parking was free but difficult, and it seemed like it would easily cause a traffic jam. The First Beacon Tower was actually quite nice, with a good feel to it, being completely natural.

We set off at 9:00 AM and arrived at the park entrance at 10:15 AM, just in time for the 11:00 AM Meng Jiangnu Theater. My daughter had planned our trip in advance, downloading the Fantawild App, which helped us efficiently plan our rides and save time. We only visited the park's most thrilling and classic attractions, and even then, it took us eight hours. However, it was definitely worth it—the experience was fantastic!

Fantawild was a fantastic experience! The park combines thrilling rides with immersive 4D entertainment. It's clean and tidy, and the parade and nighttime fireworks create a fantastic atmosphere. It's suitable for families and friends, and offers great value for money. I'd definitely come back!

It's raining continuously in Jiayuguan today; please be careful of slippery surfaces while visiting. The wind is strong in the open fields, making it feel quite cold; be sure to bring a windproof jacket. As the western starting point of the Ming Great Wall, the rammed earth beacon stands on the cliff edge of the Taolai River Valley, its weather adding to the desolate atmosphere of the frontier. A free sightseeing bus is required to reach the ruins, offering views of the canyon landscape.

The Jiayuguan Great Wall Museum is the first museum in my country that focuses on the history of the Long March. The exhibition gives a detailed introduction to the Great Wall. The total exhibition area is nearly 3,000 square meters. It is academic, interesting, and interactive. You can come in and visit.

It is best to ask a professional tour guide in the scenic area to help explain. If a few people form a small group, it will not cost much, but you can hear a lot of things. Otherwise, if you watch it alone, you will not understand it and it will be boring.
