Lancang River

Amidst the lush forests along Mengla North Road, the Lancang River stretches its emerald-green body, blending the wild essence of tropical rainforests with the gentle water charm of Dai villages into a flowing ecological panorama. This approximately 12 km river section serves as both a vivid cross-section of an international waterway traversing southern Yunnan and a natural classroom for human-nature coexistence. In the early morning, the river is often veiled in mist. Drifting downstream on a bamboo raft, you'll glimpse the branches of towering dipterocarp trees through the fog, while the calls of gibbons blend with the sound of paddles to create a rainforest morning symphony. During the rainy season when the river swells, experience traditional Dai fishing—learn to catch river fish in eddies using bamboo traps. When dry season reveals shallow banks, walk barefoot across sun-warmed pebble shoals to discover thousand-year-old petrified wood patterns polished by the river's currents. The riverside Dai villages preserve the wisdom of living by the water. Beneath the stilt houses, villagers often weave bamboo rafts, and travelers can join in crafting miniature raft models. Wild banana groves thrive on the sandy islets in the river, where hikers might encounter rainforest dwellers like blue-throated barbets and red muntjacs. At dusk, the riverside barbecue area comes alive with sizzling river fish wrapped in lemongrass over charcoal fires. Paired with homemade sticky rice wine from the Dai people, visitors can watch the sunset paint the river in amber hues. Specially designed rainforest night tour, where you'll identify firefly trails with a professional guide and listen to the nocturnal conversations of owls and tree frogs. This underdeveloped river area showcases the pristine charm of a border river with its flowing vitality—starting from Mengla County and heading 8 km north along the river, you'll step into this transboundary ecological corridor.

Manyuan Village

Manyuan Villageis a traditional Dai village in Xishuangbanna with a history of over 1,000 years. In the Dai language, "Man" means village, and "Yuan" refers to beautiful scenery and a profound, distant atmosphere. The village has completely preserved its traditional Dai village layout and second-generation stilt-style wooden houses. Small wooden buildings and pavilions are scattered among the lush greenery, while ancient banyan trees and groves of mango trees stand quietly. A large rock at the village entrance is inscribed with "Ancient Dai Village, Secret Realm of Manyuan," and you can feel a rare sense of peace as soon as you enter. The Longshan sacred forest beside the village, protected for generations, is the soul of this Dai village. In Xishuangbanna, Dai villages all preserve a patch of virgin forest where logging is prohibited, known as a "natural sacred realm." The Longshan here is dominated by tropical tree species such as upas trees and mango trees. Hundreds of ancient trees, some hundreds of years old, grow in the forest, and the groves of wild ancient mango trees are particularly rare. The ancient ecological concept of the symbiosis of "forest, land, rice, and people" has thus been passed down to this day. At the village's intangible cultural heritage experience center, you can try your hand at making Dai paper, slow-wheel pottery, bamboo weaving, and Dai brocade. As you stroll along the village paths, you will see small stalls in front of every household selling tropical fruits they have grown themselves, and you can taste local flavors like pounded chicken feet and lemongrass-grilled fish at Dai-style farmhouses.

You can go. It's the 7D movie. It's not good to put backpacks on the ground (they said to put them under the chairs, but actually it was the ground under the chairs). There is a small table but you can't put them there. They said you can put more bags there. In fact, there were only two bags in our row, so they could fit them. Even if they couldn't, the scenic spot should add tables. But overall it's good.

Xishuangbanna Manzhang Village|The Dai secret place hidden in the rainforest, you don't want to leave once you come! The most surprising thing about this trip to Xishuangbanna is to check in Manzhang Village! I was originally attracted by the "intangible cultural heritage experience", but I didn't expect that there are treasures everywhere here, which completely subverted my imagination of traditional villages. I must recommend it to everyone with five stars! 🌿 Original Dai Village, a healing picture scroll with a scene at every step Starting from Jinghong City, it takes about 1 hour to drive to this village wrapped in greenery. As soon as I entered the village, I saw typical Dai stilt houses everywhere. The golden thatched roofs sparkled in the sun, the dried jackfruits drying under the eaves swayed gently in the wind, and the faint fragrance of glutinous rice floated in the air, instantly pulling me into "Longing for Life"! Walking along the winding stone road, you can see buffaloes grazing leisurely and puppies lying on bamboo fences basking in the sun everywhere on the roadside. The villagers enthusiastically greeted "Sawadee Ka". This unpolished fireworks atmosphere is so fascinating! 🎨 Experience the intangible cultural heritage and touch the thousand-year-old culture with your own hands The best thing about Manzhang Village is that you can immerse yourself in the intangible cultural heritage of the Dai people! I tried making Dai paper with my own hands. Under the guidance of the Dai grandmother, I pounded the bark of the mulberry tree into pulp, poured it into a mold, and laid it flat to dry. The finished product has a natural plant fiber texture, and petals can be added to make a unique postcard; Slow wheel pottery making is also super interesting. Turn the ancient pottery wheel and watch the mud turn into a small bowl in your hand. Although it is crooked, the sense of accomplishment is overwhelming! In addition, the Dai Zhangha singing and elephant foot drum making experience is also worth a try. It feels that each item hides the wisdom of the Dai ancestors. 🍍 Dai flavor on the tip of your tongue, carb control ecstasy You must try the authentic Dai flavor when you come here! The snack stall at the entrance of the village sells bamboo tube rice. The moment you open the bamboo tube, the glutinous rice mixed with the fragrance of bamboo comes to your nose. With the freshly grilled lemongrass grilled fish, it is sour, spicy, tender and directly enshrined in the gods! Before leaving, I also packed a portion of pineapple purple rice. The sweet and sour pineapple meat is wrapped in soft and glutinous purple rice. It is icy and super greasy! Many farmhouses in the village can eat Dai-style home-cooked dishes, which are affordable and delicious. Bao Shao Tofu and sour bamboo shoots boiled fish are highly recommended! ✨ Tips for avoiding pitfalls 1. Transportation: It is recommended to drive or charter a car. The village is not big and can be visited in 2-3 hours, but if you want to experience the intangible cultural heritage slowly, you can reserve half a day. 2. Experience projects: The cost of each intangible cultural heritage experience ranges from 20 to 50 yuan. Remember to confirm the price with the villagers in advance. Some projects are negotiable. 3. Photography: Dai buildings, rice fields, and bamboo bridges are all great places for taking photos. Wearing light-colored ethnic clothes will make you look even better! Manzhang Village is like a pearl lost in the rainforest. There is no commercial hustle and bustle, only the purest Dai style. Here, time seems to have slowed down. If you also want to escape from the city and experience a collision of "poetry and distance", you must come here! Believe me, you will be like me, and when you leave, your mind will be full of "I will come again next time"!

The Riverside Night Market is also on the bank of the Lancang River, and is across the river from the Xingguang Night Market. The night market is quite lively, and there are many things to see. It's nice to just stroll around, but you don't have to buy anything, and it's not too hot to go out at night.

Xishuangbanna Prajna Temple is far more than just a popular "Instagrammable" spot; it's a tranquil place where you can find peace and appreciate the weight of history, the beauty of its architecture, and the devotion of its people. If you're interested in Buddhist culture, architecture, or photography, it's definitely worth a special trip.

The place Itself is really worth The Visit. The environment was really beautiful. The lake at night was just amazing to see with all the lights of the floating market. So it was really a delight. The only problem I would like to note is the fact that to find the actual place of boarding was a Total Nightmare. No sign, no indication. You are new in the city. You are just tourists difficult for you to find the place we walked with my boyfriend for around 1 hour and half Before before finding the place. The location they provide let you far away in a wrong entrance. And everyone to who you ask either has never heard about the place or is as confused as us. I give a good note only for the view and scenery.

The biggest plus of this Jinuo Mountain hike was meeting guide number 38, Sister Fang! I highly recommend her! I felt completely at ease taking my child through the Jinuo Mountain rainforest. She was incredibly attentive throughout, holding my child's hand the whole time while crossing streams, pointing out slippery and deep spots, and helping us choose safe routes. The guide was very patient, her explanations of plants and animals were vivid and engaging, and she also shared her Jinuo ethnic customs and culture with us. My child had a fantastic time the entire hike. The route was of moderate difficulty, allowing us to get close to nature without being too dangerous, and Sister Fang takes amazing photos! It was a safe and fun family hiking experience, highly recommended, and I'll definitely use her again next time!

The magic of nature! The yellow water of the Xianjiang River merges into the green Lancang River, and it becomes as clear as a wash in an instant. The Xiangjiang River is an important tributary of the Lancang River. It flows from the other end of Yunlong County. The river is yellow and chaotic. In some places, it is almost as red as rust. But when the Xianjiang River merges into the Lancang River, after just one or two hundred meters, it suddenly becomes green and clear. It can be seen how strong the surging tide is under the calm surface of the Lancang River.

A free attraction, but very fun, the villagers are kind, the food is delicious, the houses are unique, and people from other places are visiting and learning here. The environment is good, but there is a section of the rural road that is a little narrow, it would be better if it was wider
