Concubine Ln

Concubine Ln is a century-old alley in Ipoh Old Town, tucked between rows of old shophouses. Along with the adjacent Wife Lane and Third Concubine Lane, it is a popular stop when exploring the Old Town. The origin of the lane's name is a subject of much debate: rumor has it that this was once a place where wealthy merchants kept their concubines, but a more reliable account is that tin mining tycoon Yau Tet Shin gifted the entire row of shophouses to his second wife to collect rent. The Cantonese term for "concubine" became the name of the lane, and what remains is actually a piece of family history from the tin mining era. The lane is flanked by two-story shophouses from the British colonial era. Faded wooden window shutters and mottled exterior walls preserve the appearance of a Nanyang old street from a century ago. This old-street charm has also attracted film crews. The movie "Anna and the King" was filmed in the Ipoh area, and strolling through it feels like stepping onto a movie set from the past.Ipoh · 4.2km from downtown

Penang Hill

7.9
4.4/5
644 reviews
Penang Hill is located in the central part of Penang Island, known as "Bukit Bendera" in Malay, meaning "flag hill," and consists of several continuous peaks. Due to its high elevation and dense forests, the hilltop is much cooler than the lowlands. During the British colonial era, it served as a retreat for officials, and many old colonial houses from that time still dot the area. Most travelers choose to take the century-old cable car to ascend. This mountain railway opened in the 1920s and was later fully renovated. As the cabins climb the steep slope, the views of George Town and the Penang Strait gradually unfold beneath. Upon reaching the summit, the vista opens up: on clear days, the skyline of George Town, the shimmering waters of the Penang Strait, and the verdant mountains of the Malay Peninsula across the strait are all clearly visible. Here, the colors of the sea, sky, and land blend, and one can truly appreciate why Penang is often called the "Pearl of the Orient." The Habitat, a rainforest discovery center at the summit, is also worth a visit. A 1.6 km natural trail winds along the edge of an ancient rainforest over 100 million years old. The elevated canopy walkway, Langur Way, offers a bird's-eye view of the forest, while the treetop observation deck, Curtis Crest, is an ideal spot to watch the sunset. Over 2,000 species of flora and fauna inhabit this forest. If time permits, consider heading up in the evening—after sunset, wait for nightfall as the lights of George Town and the strait gradually illuminate like a starry sky, a sight many travelers find unforgettable. Those who enjoy hiking can also trek to the summit via the old mountain trails. A reminder: temperatures vary greatly between day and night at the summit, and fog is common, so bring a light jacket. Weekends and holidays see more cable car riders, so going early or during off-peak hours is advisable.Malaysia · Northeast Penang Island

Batu Caves is a cave temple complex formed by limestone hills and is one of the most famous Hindu pilgrimage sites outside of India. This karst cave complex contains over 20 known caves, with the larger Temple Cave housing the Hindu deity of war, Murugan. It is also the central venue for Malaysia's Thaipusam festival, which attracts a large number of Hindu devotees for pilgrimage every year. At the foot of the hill stands a gilded statue of Murugan, approximately 42.7 m high and entirely gold-plated, serving as an iconic landmark of the scenic area. Next to the statue is a colorful rainbow staircase, requiring a climb of 272 steps to reach the cave entrance. Flocks of pigeons often gather on both sides of the stairs, and the plaza is dotted with multiple Hindu statues and colorful decorations. After entering the Temple Cave, walking deep along the towering cave walls, sunlight pours in from natural openings in the cave ceiling, illuminating the rock walls and Hindu shrines, with exquisite statues of Hindu deities distributed throughout the cave. The Cave Villa complex at the foot of the hill consists of the Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, displaying statues and murals based on Hindu mythology. To the left of the main staircase is the Ramayana Cave - Suyambu Lingam, with a tall statue of Hanuman standing at the entrance, and murals inside the cave depicting classic scenes from the Indian epic "Ramayana." Stalactites, stalagmites, and other karst geological features can be seen on the cave walls, and the caves are also home to various bats and other cave-dwelling creatures. A rock climbing route has been opened on the northeast side of the hill, attracting many rock climbing enthusiasts to take on the challenge.Malaysia · Batu Caves

Putra Mosque is also known as the "Floating Mosque" because about three-quarters of the building extends over Putrajaya Lake. The exterior is predominantly pink, constructed largely from rose-colored granite, and features nine domes. Construction began in 1997, and it can accommodate over 10,000 worshippers at once, making it one of the most recognizable landmarks in Putrajaya. The mosque consists mainly of three parts: the prayer hall, the courtyard, and the learning and functional spaces. The roof of the prayer hall resembles an open umbrella, composed of 49 domes of varying sizes arranged in a radial pattern, with a design inspired by Islamic architectural traditions. The minaret next to the mosque is tall and slender, with a rocket-shaped spire, and is equipped with elevators and stairs to reach the top. The entire mosque is designed to take full advantage of natural ventilation from the lake, with lake breezes passing through the corridors and vertical grilles to keep the interior cool. Viewed from the opposite shore, the pink domes and their reflection in the lake create a picturesque scene.Malaysia · Putrajaya

Oriental Village

4.3/5
400 reviews
Oriental Village is located at Burau Bay on the west coast of Langkawi, backed by Gunung Mat Cincang, and reachable by a 15-min drive from Langkawi Airport. It's not a traditional village but a resort area nestled between mountains and sea: dozens of Malay and oriental-style buildings with varied designs surround a lake, housing shops, restaurants, and recreational activities. The SkyCab cable car to the summit of Gunung Mat Cincang also departs from here. The movie "Anna and the King," starring Chow Yun-fat, was filmed in Langkawi. For most travelers, the top priority here is taking the cable car up the mountain. The cable car ascends nearly 700 m from the base, with one section at a near 45-degree incline. The six-person cabins slowly climb above the rainforest, offering views of the Seven Wells Waterfall and the western coastline during the approx. 15-min one-way ride. At the mountaintop station, two circular observation decks provide panoramic island views—on clear days, even distant Thai islands may be visible. Temperatures here are a few degrees cooler than below, so those sensitive to cold may want a light jacket. From the station, a sloped elevator or walking path leads to the sky bridge, a 100-m-long curved steel suspension bridge spanning two peaks at over 600 m above sea level. On sunny days, the dense forest below is clearly visible; when fog rolls in, the mist creates a sensation of walking among clouds. During strong winds, the bridge sways slightly—those with acrophobia should proceed with caution. Beyond the cable car, indoor attractions like the SkyDome dome theater, SkyRex motion experience, and 6D cinema offer respite from midday heat. Tired visitors can dine at lakeside restaurants or browse handicrafts and traditional clothing in shops. Note that the cable car and sky bridge are weather-dependent and may close during heavy wind or rain—check forecasts before visiting. Queues can be long during peak hours, so allocate sufficient time.Malaysia · Langkawi

When waiting for train from or to Butterworth or Kuala Lumpur, try to enjoy the 'dataran' first. Times can be killing here for sure. You won't regret it.

You must come to the representative work of karst landform, Ji Le Cave! It is seven or eight kilometers away from the city, not far away. You can directly call a taxi to the door by garb, and you can also see traditional Malaysian houses along the way. ⌛️Business hours are about 8:00-16:30. If you want to go, it is recommended to go early, because it is in the deep mountains, and it may be difficult to call a taxi when you leave too late. 💰Free🆓 🙏The feature is the distinct religious color. There are some Buddhist and Taoist figures in it, and there are also rock caves with karst landforms, but the scale is still small. On the other side of the cave is a lawn, where little monkeys live. They are not afraid of people and move freely here. If you have enough time, you can come and have a look! I don’t think it’s necessary to come here specifically to expect anything!

Genting Highlands is really popular among locals. It is packed with people every weekend and holiday. There are several hotels all over Genting Highlands, including three-star, four-star and five-star hotels. Moreover, the hotel group is very generous and provides free rooms (but certain conditions must be met). This "free" strategy can also attract tourists to come and consume frequently.

I'd been looking forward to coming here for a long time, but due to various reasons, it's only now that I've arrived. It's magnificent. The surrounding Hindu temples allowed us to experience and understand Indian religion firsthand. The children loved feeding the pigeons; there were so many pigeons and monkeys here. It gave us a taste of a different country and its natural beauty.
