Bamian Mountain

5.5
4.4/5
22 reviews
Bamian Mountain stands majestically on the border of Hunan and Chongqing, bordering Youyang County and Xiushan County in Chongqing to the west, and belongs to theWuling Mountains. This is a rare high-altitude plateau: surrounded by steep cliffs, the mountain is long and narrow from north to south with pointed ends, looking like a large ship resting on the peaks of the mountains from a distance; viewed from the direction of Liye, the undulating ridgeline resembles a "sleeping beauty" lying quietly. On the summit, with an average altitude of over 1,200 m, a gently sloping grassland unfolds, with hilly pastures stretching over 50 km², hence the name "grassland in the sky." This grassland, suspended above the cliffs, is the core attraction of Bamian Mountain: with lush pastures and herds of cattle and horses scattered throughout, it has been hailed as "a pearl of the grasslands in southern China." The mountain is also dotted withsights such as Zisheng Bridge, Yanzi Cave, Beizi Rock, Yixiantian, Bijiashan, Wangxiang Terrace, and Xiling Cliff; karst caves, sinkholes, stone forests, and alpine lakes are scattered throughout, and the mountain area is shrouded in clouds and mist all year round, with scenes of surging cloud seas and glowing skies often encountered in the early morning and evening. Because there are only a few steep passes for entering and exiting the summit, such as Dayanmen, Xiaoyanmen, and Wangxiang Terrace, this place has been easy to defend and difficult to attack since ancient times. It still retains old place names like "Thirty-six Knives" and "Forty-eight Camps," and the anti-bandit battles in western Hunan in the early 1950s also took place around Yanzi Cave here. The average summer temperature at the summit is around 20°C, with cool breezes, making it a favored summer retreat for people in the surrounding areas.Longshan · 64.1km from downtown

The ancient city of Liye is located in the south of Longshan County, adjacent to Chongqing City in the southwest. It is an important border town on the Youshui River. Historically, it was an important passage from the Central Plains to the southwest, and was known as the "Chu-Shu Tongjin". It is not only a national second-level museum, but also a branch of the Capital Museum; in 2002, more than 38,000 Qin Bamboo Slips were unearthed from the ruins of the ancient city of Liye. ; The ancient streets of the Ming and Qing Dynasties mainly include "seven streets, six lanes and five elements". Attractions such as Qujia Courtyard, Li Tongfa Store, Chen Yongtai, Tang Fuji and other attractions are located in these seven streets and six lanes./1, 1,Liye Qin Bamboo Slips Museum The Liye Ancient City (Qin Slips) Museum was built in 2006 and opened in 2010. It is a special museum on the history and culture of the Qin Dynasty. The collection contains more than 10,000 cultural relics unearthed from the Warring States Period to the Qin and Han Dynasties. It comprehensively explains the administrative operations of the Qin Empire and the border counties of the empire from four aspects: "Impression of the Ancient City", "Memories of Moving the Tombs", "Family in Youshui", and "Empire County Administration" The various social aspects of the city. The contents of Chen Zhan's Qin bamboo slips cover various aspects of society, politics, economy, military, postal services, law, officials, arithmetic, calendar, religion and other aspects of the Qin Dynasty. Among them, "Qianling Dongting County", " The three bamboo slips "Nine-Nine Multiplication Table" and "Moving the Mausoleum and Mailing to Dongting" are among the best in the collection and have rewritten many histories. 2. Ruins of the ancient city of Liye The ancient city of Liye was once a strategic location for Qin and Chu to compete for hegemony. It was the seat of Dongting County after the establishment of the Qin Dynasty. It was also a strategic location for garrisoning. According to records, Dongting County moved to Ling County in the 32nd year of Qin Shihuang's reign, with 55,534 households, a total of more than 30 Ten thousand people accounted for 1/70 of the national population in the Qin Dynasty. It can be seen that Dongting County was a large county with a large territory and a large population at that time. The ruins of the ancient city of Qin and Han Dynasties during the Warring States Period in Liye are located on the west bank of the Youshui River. It was built in the Chu State during the Warring States Period. The terrain is rectangular, with a length of 210 meters from north to south and a width of only 107 meters from east to west. It is the only Qin city ruins discovered so far in my country. At that time, many famous historians and archaeological experts commented: "The value of the ancient city is no less than that of Qin bamboo slips." It has irreplaceable significance for studying the history of China's Qin Dynasty. 3. Qin Culture Theme Park Qin Culture Theme Park, as the name suggests, is mainly about Qin culture. Attractions such as postal stations, zodiac horse posts, shops and thatched houses reflect the characteristics of people's information transmission and architectural composition during the Qin Dynasty. Qin Culture Theme Park and Youshui River are bounded by the river embankment. Standing on the river embankment, you can enjoy the scenery of the theme park and Youshui River at the same time, which is the White River in Shen Congwen's writing.4. There are more than 910 good existing residential buildings and a construction area of more than 31,940 square meters. Due to the convenient transportation of Youshui River, a trade market had been formed long before the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty and became the trade center and material distribution center of the Hunan, Hubei and Sichuan border areas. This attracted a large number of merchants from Jiangxi, Sichuan, Hubei and Changde in the province to gather in Liye. , trade and business, build streets and build houses. The architectural style is based on local Tujia architecture, while also integrating Western architectural styles from Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Xihe, forming Liye's unique multi-faceted architectural features. 5. The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area

8.9
4.7/5
8.9k reviews
The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area is located in the Xiling Gorge section of the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei. It is a scenic attraction built around the Three Gorges hydro project, covering over ten square kilometers. Currently, it offers travelers three viewing spots: Tanzi Ridge, the 185 viewing platform, and the river closure memorial park. The dam crest itself is not open to travelers, so visits primarily revolve around these three attractions. Tanzi Ridge is the highest accessible point in the dam area, named for its jar-shaped summit viewing platform resembling an overturned jar. It also served as the survey site for the dam's initial location selection. From the ridge top, visitors can overlook the Three Gorges Project in its entirety—the dam, power station, and twin five-level ship locks are all visible. The five lock chambers cascade down the mountainside, earning the nickname "Fourth Gorge of the Yangtze." The park displays engineering artifacts like ancient riverbed stones, river closure rocks, and foundation stones from the dam site, complemented by model exhibits that help visitors intuitively understand the origins and development of this mega-project. The 185 observation platform is located on the left bank of the dam. It gets its name from sharing the same elevation of 185 m as the dam crest. Standing on the platform feels like being atop the dam: on one side, the dam and vertical ship lift are within close reach, offering a chance to witness ships "riding the elevator" over the dam; on the other side lies the vast, tranquil reservoir upstream. The stark contrast between the stillness above and the dynamism below the dam is striking. The closure memorial park is situated on the right bank downstream of the dam, preserving artifacts like tetrahedral closure stones and large loading machinery used during the construction. It's an ideal spot to view the dam's full frontal grandeur. During flood seasons when the dam releases water, torrents rush out from the deep outlets, creating towering mist and thunderous echoes that reverberate through the valley—a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. The three attractions are far apart, and the scenic area provides shuttle buses for transportation. It is recommended to reserve half a day to visit them in order.China · Yichang

The ancient town of Fenghuang is located in the southwest of Xiangxi, Hunan Province. The ancient city was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with the Tuojiang River running through the city. The red sandstone walls stand on the shore, and the Nanhua Mountain is set against the city towers from the Qing Dynasty. A narrow wooden bridge with stone piers is across the river under the north gate of the ancient city. It was the passage out of the city in those days. The bluestone streets in the city, the stilt houses by the Tuojiang River, the numerous ancient buildings and the rich customs constitute the unique charm of western Hunan. The main attractions include the former residence of Shen Congwen, the ancient city museum, Chongde Hall, etc., which are worth visiting.China · Fenghuang County

Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street

Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the long-established core commercial district in Chongqing, located on the Yuzhong Peninsula. Centered around the Monument to the People's Liberation at its heart, it extends along several streets including Minquan Road, Minzu Road, Zourong Road, and Bayi Road. The monument is an octagonal tower-shaped structure, originally built to commemorate the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and later renamed the Monument to the People's Liberation. Its four-sided clock at the top makes it a highly recognizable landmark in Chongqing, and most travelers visiting here take photos in front of it. Shopping and food are the two main themes of the pedestrian street: the area around the monument is densely packed with shopping malls and traditional department stores. When tired from shopping, visitors can turn into Bayi Road Snack Street, where sour and spicy noodles, small glutinous rice balls, and wontons line the street, allowing them to sample all of Chongqing's snacks while strolling. Hidden around the commercial district are Luohan Temple and Nengren Temple on Zhonghua Road, two ancient temples nestled among skyscrapers, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city. At night, the pedestrian street takes on a different vibe: building screens and neon lights illuminate the area, and the square in front of the monument becomes a popular spot for night photography. Every New Year's Eve, many locals gather under the monument to listen to the New Year's bell and count down together—a tradition that has continued for years. The crowd is enormous that night, so those wishing to experience the atmosphere should plan ahead. A short 15-minute walk from the monument leads to Hongya Cave, making it ideal to combine both locations into a nightlife route.China · Chongqing

Yangtze River Three Gorges

7.5
4.8/5
264 reviews
The Yangtze River Three Gorges is a grand canyon formed by the Yangtze cutting through the Wushan Mountains. It stretches nearly 200 km from White Emperor City in Fengjie, Chongqing, in the west to Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei, in the east, connecting three gorges—Qutang, Wuxia, and Xiling—from west to east. This stretch of river has served as a vital waterway between Ba and Chu since ancient times. Li Bai's verse "Departing at dawn from White Emperor City veiled in colorful clouds" depicts the eastbound journey from the gorge entrance, while Du Fu left his famous line "The endless Yangtze rolls on and on" in Fengjie. Each gorge has distinct characteristics, often summarized as "majestic Qutang, graceful Wuxia, and perilous Xiling." Qutang Gorge spans only about 8 km but is renowned for its sheer cliffs. At Kuimen, its entrance, the river abruptly narrows to less than 100 m between knife-cut bluffs—a scene featured on the back of China's fifth series CNY 10 banknote. Ancient plank road holes and Wind Box Gorge's hanging coffins remain visible on the cliffs. Wuxia Gorge extends over 40 km like a winding gallery, with the Twelve Peaks lining its banks. Goddess Peak stands elegantly photogenic in morning mist. Xiling Gorge was once notorious for rapids, but the Three Gorges Dam has transformed its upper reaches into a "high gorge with placid waters." Riverside landmarks like White Emperor City and Huangling Temple are worth visiting. Cruising is the best way to experience the gorges. Long-distance ships sail downstream, while short round-trip boats shuttle through key sections. Watching peaks drift by from the deck offers a more immersive perspective than shore viewing. Morning mist often creates ideal conditions for photographing Kuimen and Goddess Peak. Cliffside plank road relics and inscriptions may flash by during the cruise—keep an eye out to avoid missing them.China · Yichang

小小的我~要看大大的世界13 September 2025

Bamianshan, Longshan, Xiangxi: Hidden in northwestern Hunan, this "Southern Sky Grassland" blends romance and wildness amidst the clouds. If you've ever dreamed of reaching out to embrace drifting clouds and looking up to see a glimpse of stars, then Bamianshan, Longshan, Xiangxi, is a secret haven tailor-made for this fantasy. It boasts the impressive title of "China's Largest Table Mountain"—surrounded by razor-sharp cliffs. Standing on the edge and gazing down, clouds swirl in the valley, making it seem as if you're stepping on clouds. Turn around, and the summit reveals a completely different world: Thousands of acres of meadows, seemingly meticulously ironed, stretch from your eyes to the horizon, quietly transporting the vastness of the northern grasslands into the folds of the southern mountains. The four seasons here never disappoint. In spring, wildflowers blanket the mountain meadows like a colorful blanket. Dandelions, drenched in morning dew, lift tiny white umbrellas in the breeze, filling the air with a delicate floral fragrance. Summer is the most pleasurable, with a cool mountain breeze brushing against the grass tips. Even amidst the scorching heat below, the peak maintains a comfortable 20°C. Lying on the grass, watching the clouds roll by, can soothe even a restless heart. In autumn, the meadows are tinged with a gentle pale yellow, while wild strawberries and kiwis hide in the bushes. Picking one is a delightfully sweet and sour experience, plucked from the heart. Winter is even more captivating. After a snowfall, the meadows are blanketed in silver, rime drapes the branches, and the entire Bamashan Mountain transforms into a fairytale world of ice and snow. Walking through the snow, your feet crackle, and even your breath is shrouded in white mist. Bamashan offers surprises at every moment of the day. Be sure to rise early in the morning and find a slope with a wide view. First, the sky begins to turn pale, then the orange-red sunrise slowly emerges from the sea of clouds, tinting the clouds in golden red and orange-pink. The once gray meadow is instantly illuminated, and in that moment, it seems as if the entire world is ablaze. Nightfall is when Bamashan reaches its most romantic moment: free from the city's light pollution, the stars, like overturned diamonds, fill the night sky, and the Milky Way is so clear that a faint band of light can be seen. Stay in a starry sky tent on the mountaintop, unzip and gaze at the stars. Listen to the rustling of the wind across the meadow and the occasional barking of a herdsman's dog in the distance. This kind of tranquility and freedom, far from the hustle and bustle, is something you'll never find in the city. This place isn't just a place to enjoy the scenery; it's a paradise for fun. For a wild experience, rent a horse—the perspective from horseback is truly unique. As the meadow slowly recedes beneath you, the wind caresses your face, and you feel as if you've left all your worries behind. (But be aware that horseback riding is quite expensive, so be sure to ask for the price in advance.) In the evening, be sure to try the local roasted whole lamb: the rack is roasted to a golden brown, the fat dripping onto the charcoal with a sizzling aroma that wafts far into the distance. Tear off a piece of meat, the skin crispy on the outside, the meat tender on the inside. Paired with a glass of local rice wine, it's a truly divine experience. If the scenic area is hosting a tent music festival, the atmosphere becomes even more lively. A stage is set up in the center of the meadow, lights illuminate the night sky, and people from all corners of the world sing and dance to the music. Even strangers can join in the revelry, and the unbridled joy is something you'll remember for a long time.

Introduction to the scenic spot The Liye Ancient City Scenic Area is located in Longshan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. It consists of Liye Ancient City, Ancient Town, Museum and Youshui River Scenic Belt. The scenic area has a rich historical and cultural heritage, simple and rich ethnic customs, and unique and beautiful landscapes. The Qin City in the world is Liye in China. Liye, with its simple, quiet and open appearance, shows people the charming charm of China's cultural heritage. The Liye Ancient City Ruins is currently the only Qin Dynasty ancient city ruins in China. More than 37,000 Qin bamboo slips unearthed in the ruins have "revive" the history of the Qin Dynasty. It is another amazing discovery in Qin Dynasty archaeology in my country after the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, which is comparable to oracle bone inscriptions and Dunhuang documents. In 2002, Zhu Rongji, then Premier of the State Council, specially instructed: "I checked the list of national key cultural relics protection units approved by the State Council in the past few batches (attached), and most of the units are not as important as Liye Ancient Town." Liye Ancient Town is a famous town in western Hunan. The streets and lanes from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are well preserved. Liye is the core of the original ecological culture of the Tujia people and the source of the Tujia Genesis. Liye Qin Bamboo Slips Museum is a unique museum of Qin culture in China. With four major themes, "Impression of the Ancient City", "Youshui People", "Ancient Well Mystery" and "Imperial County Government", it shows the social conditions of the frontier counties of the Qin Empire. The museum has advanced design and first-class equipment, which can make you feel the past of the Qin Empire two thousand years ago.

The Two Rivers Ferry is absolutely fantastic! The 15 yuan ticket is incredibly cost-effective! Here's a great route for families with kids: After visiting Jiefangbei and Kuixinglou, see Hongyadong during the day. If you're traveling with a 6-year-old and don't want to brave the crowds at Hongyadong at night, the stilted buildings during the day are just as beautiful. Afterward, take the Two Rivers Ferry to Danzishi, disembark, and explore Danzishi Old Street, Nanbin Road, and Xiahaoli. Then, take the light rail/bus or taxi back. The whole route is smooth and relaxing. The boat ride is novel and fun, and the kids especially loved it, remaining enthusiastic about exploring the shopping streets afterwards. At the pier, there's a large bowl of freshly cut watermelon for 10 yuan – watch it being cut right in front of you! It's sweet and refreshing. I highly recommend this route for families!

Fenghuang Ancient Town, located in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, is a border town renowned for its literary significance. A national 5A-level tourist attraction, it was praised by New Zealand writer Rewi Alley as "China's most beautiful small town." The Tuojiang River flows gently through the town, with stilted houses standing along its banks and winding ancient cobblestone alleys. This is the spiritual home of Shen Congwen's novel "Border Town," harboring unique Xiangxi charm. In the morning, a thin mist blankets the river; at night, lights reflect on the water. The landscape and culture blend seamlessly, half poetic, half down-to-earth; every step reveals the gentle warmth of time. #TravelRecommendationOfficer #HealingScenery #FenghuangAncientTown #XiangxiTourism

As the spotlight fell, red silk billowed from both sides of the stage, instantly enveloping the entire theater in a profound sense of history. When the actors playing revolutionaries, armed with wooden rifles, charged forward amidst the smoke and fire, an elderly man in the front row quietly wiped a tear from his eye. From the gunshots by the river, to that declaration that transcends over seventy years, every shout resonated with the audience's hearts. In the final scene, as the national flag was unfurled, the entire theater spontaneously erupted in applause. That deafening roar wasn't stage sound effects; it was the most direct empathy from everyone present for that groundbreaking era. This wasn't a distant story confined to books; it was the real, tangible footsteps of our forefathers.

The scenery was beautiful, especially after the rain, like walking through a painting; the tour guide at the Three Gorges Dam was beautiful, had a lovely voice, and provided thorough explanations; the young man who accompanied us was professional, dedicated, and provided detailed explanations and made excellent arrangements! Highly recommended!
