Xiaoliancheng, located on Jiangshan Mountain in the western suburbs of Longzhou County, is a frontier military defense fortification built by the famous anti-French general Su Yuanchun to resist foreign invasion and safeguard the stability of the border. It was built in 1887, covering a total area of 1.5 square kilometers and a city wall of about 5 kilometers. According to historical records, Xiaoliancheng has a dangerous terrain, "left to Zhennan Pass, right to Shuikou Pass, and Pinger Pass", which can protect Longzhou City from behind. Su Yuanchun "took Liancheng Fortress, stationed troops and stored food" to control the passages of Shuikou, Pinger, Zhennan and other passes.
Xiaoliancheng has built: Baoyuan Palace, Yuanchun Pavilion, Baoen Pavilion, Biejing Pavilion, Leicheng Gate, Martial Arts Field, Dianjiangtai, Guanglu Temple, and 15 artillery towers and beacon towers, general flag towers, city walls and other structures, forming an arch ring, forming a complete defense system with a magnificent scale and extraordinary momentum. The most spectacular are the Zhenlong Fort on the main peak, the walls connecting the peaks, and the Baoyuan Palace in Longyuan Cave. The Zhenlong Fort covers an area of 1,958 square meters and a building area of 1,048 square meters. It is built with stone materials and has facilities such as barracks, ammunition depots, and a platform. It houses a German Krupp 120mm caliber cannon. It is a large-scale fort on the Sino-Vietnamese border in Guangxi. "Longyuan Cave" is a natural cave in Jiangshan Mountain. It can be reached by walking more than 300 stone steps from the east side of Jiangshan Mountain. The cave is divided into two floors, with a total area of 2,150 square meters and a height of more than 40 meters. There is a "skylight" on the east side, which leads to the "sky palace". After Su Yuanchun carefully decorated this cave, it was named "Baoyuan Palace". Baoyuan Palace is tall, wide, bright and clever, with natural scenery. It has pavilions, jade palaces, sky palaces, nine dragon murals, golden steps, jade steps, shrines, thrones, etc. and dozens of cliff inscriptions. These buildings, paintings, and inscriptions are exquisitely crafted and have high artistic value. Su Yuanchun set up the governor's office in Longyuan Cave, where he gathered his generals to discuss military affairs or hold banquets and have fun, making it a "blessed place" for him to stay in the border town.
In May 2006, Xiaoliancheng was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
