Ephesus Ancient City

Ephesus Ancient City is located near Selcuk in western Türkiye and is one of the better-preserved classical city ruins in the eastern Mediterranean. Over two thousand years ago, it thrived as the capital of the Roman province of Asia, buoyed by maritime trade, and was often described as "not Rome, but surpassing Rome" in grandeur. Today, the coastline has receded several km due to silt accumulation, but the layout of its streets, temples, library, and theater remains clearly discernible, making it a representative site to experience urban life during the Roman era. At the end of the road stands the two-story facade of the Library of Celsus, where statues symbolizing wisdom and virtue in the niches are still distinct—its collection once held over ten thousand scrolls. Further ahead, the hillside Great Theater could accommodate around twenty thousand spectators, with the top tiers offering expansive views. A short walk from the theater along Harbor Street toward the old port leads to the ruins of the Church of Mary, where the Council of Ephesus was held in 431 AD. Visiting tips: The entire site is open-air with minimal shade, so sun protection and hydration are essential in summer. Given the extensive ruins, allocating half a day allows for a more leisurely visit. Note that the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is not within the ancient city grounds—its ruins lie near the town of Selcuk.Türkiye · Selcuk

Kaş is nestled along the Lycian coast of the Mediterranean in Türkiye, built upon the ruins of the ancient city of Antiphellos. It is a harbor town that blends Greek charm with remnants of Lycian civilization. Before the population exchange between Greece and Türkiye in 1923, a large number of Greek residents lived here, and the old town still retains the blue-and-white stone houses and cobblestone alleys they left behind. The town is a renowned diving destination in Türkiye, with shipwreck sites and aircraft wreckage scattered along the coast—including a well-preserved Dakota DC-3 transport plane wreck that you can enter and explore, as well as underwater canyons, reefs, and steep rock walls. The underwater visibility is excellent, and while diving, you may occasionally spot groupers, octopuses, and sea turtles. Beyond diving, taking a boat trip is a signature experience here; you can gaze at the semi-submerged ruins of the Sunken City of Kekova along the coastline, or take a short ferry ride for a day trip to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, which is just across the water. Several Lycian rock tombs and sarcophagi are scattered throughout the town and on the hillsides, with a 4th-century BC lion-shaped sarcophagus being particularly striking. The town also preserves an ancient open-air theater, where you can sit on the stone steps and look out over the azure sea. The old town is compact, making it easy to explore the main attractions on foot. The streets are lined with shops selling handicrafts and Mediterranean snacks, perfect for slowing down and soaking in the atmosphere.Türkiye · Kas

Aegean Coast

Aegean Coast is a waterfront promenade stretching along the Gulf of Izmir, centered on the Kordon boulevard from Alsancak to Konak. This wide seaside walkway hugs the blue bay on one side, with open lawns and rows of palm trees on the other, dotted with open-air cafes and snack carts, making it a place for locals to take daily walks, fish, and relax. The promenade is most charming around sunset, when local young people like to buy drinks and sit in groups on the lawn or on benches facing the sea to watch the sun sink into the water. During the day, it is mostly residents taking walks and fishermen casting their lines along the shore, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The walkway passes several ferry terminals along the way, where you can take a boat across the bay to the other side and look back at the entire coastline from the sea for a unique view. A short walk from the southern end of the promenade leads to Konak Square, where the Clock Tower of İzmir, a city landmark, stands. The nearby Kemeralti Market is a historic traditional market in Izmir, with cobblestone alleys filled with spices, dried fruits, ceramics, and teahouses—definitely worth a visit after strolling along the promenade.Türkiye · Izmir

Ephesus is one of the most impressive historical places to visit in this part of Turkey. The ancient city is much larger than it may seem at first, with highlights including the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, marble streets and many well-preserved ruins.I recommend allowing at least 2–3 hours for the visit, or 3–4 hours if you want to explore everything at a relaxed pace. The entrance ticket for foreign visitors is around €40 and includes both the ancient city and the Ephesus Experience Museum, a modern multimedia museum with immersive projections, sound and visual effects that help bring the history of Ephesus to life.Wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking on uneven stone. Water and sun protection are also essential, especially in warm weather. It is best to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the strongest heat and the biggest crowds.Business Hours: Daily, approximately 8:00 AM–6:45 PM.Address: Ephesus Archaeological Site, 35920 Selçuk, İzmir, Türkiye.Reason to recommend: A fascinating combination of real ancient ruins and an immersive museum experience that makes the history much easier to understand.

It was a fantastic experience. The customer service was incredibly reliable, promptly answering and resolving any questions. The local supplier we arranged was also incredibly reliable. The pilot, with over 20 years of flying experience and a keen sharer, created an unforgettable experience. A highly recommended and reliable choice!

History slowly continues in the interplay between the Acropolis and the Aegean Sea, the busy city and harbor, the buzzing whistles of cruise ships echoing in the cradle of ancient Greek and European civilization, and the ruins of highly developed city-states in the Aegean Sea...
