No. 1 of Best Things to Do in Walt Disney World Resort

Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park is a large-scale nature and animal conservation-themed park within Walt Disney World Resort, featuring zones modeled after habitats like Africa, Asia, and Pandora. At its center stands the iconic "Tree of life" sculpture, carved with hundreds of animal figures and housing a Zootopia-themed 4D show, serving as a landmark visible shortly after entering. In the Africa section, Kilimanjaro safaris offers open-vehicle rides through simulated African savannas where giraffes, elephants, rhinos and other animals may move near the vehicle, with an on-site guide explaining animal behaviors. After disembarking, explore the Gorilla Falls trail on foot for close-up views of gorillas, hippos and more, or enjoy the Festival of the Lion King show at Harambe theater - a Lion King-themed performance blending song, dance and acrobatic puppetry. In the Asia section, Expedition Everest features a Himalayan mountain backdrop where trains climb and plunge through the terrain, including a backward dash and encounter with the legendary Yeti, making it the park's premier thrill coaster. The adjacent Maharajah Jungle Trek trail showcases Asian animals like Bengal tigers and Komodo dragons. Pandora: The World of Avatar recreates the alien rainforest and floating mountains from the movie. Avatar Flight of Passage simulates the flying experience of riding a banshee over Pandora, while Na'vi River Journey takes you on a boat ride through a bioluminescent rainforest at night. To learn about the behind-the-scenes work of animal conservation, you can also take a small train to the animal conservation station in the park and observe the daily care routines of the animals through viewing windows.
