Alyosha stands on a green cape hill on the east bank of Kola Bay in Murmansk, at an elevation of over 170 m, and the figure of this giant can be seen from many parts of the city. Its official name is the "Monument to the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War," completed in 1974 to commemorate the soldiers, sailors, and pilots who fought fiercely in the Arctic Circle during World War II. Locals gave this soldier, wearing a military overcoat and carrying a submachine gun, the affectionate nickname "Alyosha." This name comes from a widely sung song of the same name and is now more widely known than the official name. The statue itself is approximately 35 m high, and with the pedestal, the total height exceeds 42 m, making it one of the largest monumental statues in Russia. The soldier's gaze is directed westward, toward the Valley of Glory, where the fighting was particularly fierce. An eternal flame burns on the black stone platform in front of the pedestal, and an unknown soldier is buried nearby. Inside the pedestal, seawater from the area where the patrol boat "Tuman" sank and soil from the Valley of Glory battlefield are sealed, with the weight of remembrance hidden in these details. Standing on the observation deck on the hill and looking down, you can see the entire Kola Bay and the ice-free Arctic port. The midnight sun during the polar day and the twinkling lights during the polar night give this city a completely different appearance.Murmansk · 97.8km from Severomorsk

[Fun] It feels like an electric shock, like a miracle, passing through my life. I marvel at the magic of nature. [Scenery] You must have good photography skills and equipment to capture the shock. [Value for money] It's not easy to go there.
