Shiwan Great Mountain National Forest Park

Shiwandashan National Forest Park is located in the southern part of Shangsi County. It has a quiet environment and a pristine forest landscape. It is surrounded by continuous mountains, flowing springs and green forests, and the scenery is very charming. There are two main routes when visiting the Attraction. One is leading to the "Sleeping Buddha of Nanshan" (named so because when you look at Nanshan from here, the outline of Nanshan looks like a giant Buddha sleeping on its back), and the other is leading to the "Viewing the Sea at Shishan" (named so because the peak is the top of Shishan Mountain, where you can have a panoramic view of the sea view of Beibu Gulf). Most tourists will choose the second route. However, the distance from the gate of the Attraction to the top of the mountain is quite far. It takes about 3.5 hours to reach the top, and currently it is only accessible on foot. Tourists who want to reach the top are advised to set off early. If it is already late, it is recommended to go down the mountain immediately even if you have not reached the top of the mountain. If you choose the route to "Lion Mountain Sea Viewing", even if you don't reach the top of the mountain, the many scenic spots along the way will make you feel that the trip is worthwhile. The many naturally formed bathing pools along the way are good places to play in the water, and scenic spots such as the Dragon Robe Tree, the Love Net, and the Sancha River are also very charming.Shangsi · 31.9km from downtown

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

7.4
4.8/5
969 reviews
The Guangxi White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area consists of four discontinuous rocky mountain regions: the Bapen, Daling, Tuozhu, and Banli sections. Its primary conservation focus is the white-headed langur, a nationally protected animal named for its snow-white crown and leaf-based diet. Discovered and named by Chinese scholars, this primate has thrived on Earth for over 3 million years. Today, it is found only within Chongzuo's approximately 200 km² rocky terrain, with a global population of just over 1,000 individuals. It is one of the world's 25 most endangered and critically protected primates, often compared to the giant panda in scientific value, earning Chongzuo the title "Hometown of China's White-Headed Langurs." After entering the park, visitors can reach the cliffside habitats of the langurs via a 10-min shuttle ride or a few hundred meters' walk. The langurs follow a predictable routine: foraging at dawn, resting in shaded cliffs at noon, and returning to their nests before dusk along relatively fixed routes. Patient observers are often rewarded with sightings. Infants under six months old, golden-furred and clinging to their black-coated mothers, are a highlight for wildlife photographers. The area also shelters other protected species like Francois' langurs and macaques, as well as rare plants such as cycads and golden camellias. Leveraging this rocky forest ecosystem, the park conducts year-round activities like science education, ecological experiences, research expeditions, field training, and photography. Observe quietly—never feed or chase the langurs. Bring binoculars or telephoto lenses for better cliffside details, and visit at dawn or dusk (avoiding noon) for higher chances of active sightings.Chongzuo · 49.6km from Shangsi

Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot

9.1
4.7/5
27.2k reviews
The Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot is located on the upper reaches of the Guichun River along the China-Vietnam border in Guangxi. Here, the boundary river meets a cliff, cascading down in three tiers with a width of over 200 m and a drop of more than 70 m, facing Vietnam's Ban Gioc Waterfall across the cliff. During the rainy season, the two waterfalls nearly merge into one, and their roar can be heard across the valley. This site also served as a filming location for the TV series The Journey of Flower. The highlights of the visit mostly revolve around this border river: after passing through the Detian memorial archway, known as the "transnational gate," you can take a bamboo raft from the shore to the foot of the waterfall, looking up as the curtain of water crashes down from the cliff top, with mist spraying onto your face—effectively "traveling abroad" on the border river. On the river, you'll often encounter Vietnamese locals paddling small bamboo rafts to sell coffee, dried fruit, and other goods, and the haggling adds a fun cross-border market vibe. After disembarking, follow the waterfall-viewing boardwalk and multi-level observation decks to admire the waterfall's full panorama from different heights. Boundary markers No. 53 (erected during the Qing Dynasty and inscribed with "Guangxi, China") and No. 836 are popular photo spots. Along the boardwalk, you'll also find Detian Temple, built by villagers in the 1980s to commemorate the Zhuang historical figure Nong Zhigao—worth a quick visit. The waterfall view varies significantly with water volume: during the summer peak season, the water is torrential and awe-inspiring, while it appears more delicate in the dry season; the bamboo raft dock has long queues in peak season, so it's advisable to arrive early for a close-up view of the waterfall; the rafts get quite misty, so remember to waterproof your phone and camera.China · Daxin

Dongnayuwan Scenic Area

Dongnayuwan Scenic Area is nestled along the Heishui River in Chongzuo, Guangxi, upgraded from the original Anping Fairy River attraction. Surrounded by karst peaks embracing an emerald bay with continuous mountain islets and bamboo-lined banks, it's hailed as the "Alternative Li River" and "Fairy River of Guangxi," serving as a filming location for TV dramas like The Journey of Flower. The main activity here is a boat cruise through the picturesque landscape, with painted barges gliding past mountain reflections before disembarking to explore stone forests and bamboo groves—offering distinct experiences by water and land. The highlight lies in the "Eight views of Dongnayuwan": Water illusion, Guantian Farm, Swallow Cave, Xiake Trail, Longbi Beach, Waterfall Market, Aquatic Stone Maze, and Puhuang Island. Guantian Farm divides fields according to Tusi (chieftain) land systems like water-carrying fields, horse-raising fields, and sedan-chair fields—each plot's name corresponding to the farmer's role in the chieftain's household. The staggered Xiake Trail provides prime views of Longbi Beach's tiered waterfalls, where heart-shaped rapids send white dragon-like streams through rocks into the river, their intensity varying with water levels. The Aquatic Stone Maze conceals a submerged stone forest with bizarre rocks encircling pools amid bamboo shadows. Puhuang Island allegedly gained its name when the Southern Ming Emperor Yongli stayed here with his empress, once serving as the backyard garden of Anping's Tusi. The area carries deeper Tusi cultural undertones. Daxin County is renowned as the "Hometown of Chinese Tusi Culture," with the scenic area located in Anping Village—the former seat of Anping Tusi Prefecture, where ruins of Ming-Qing dynasty Tusi offices still remain on the old street. In 1637, traveler Xu Xiake documented his visit to Anping Prefecture in his travelogue. Today, traditions like Tusi welcoming ceremonies, Bayin drum music, and the Nongdong Festival continue among local Zhuang communities, some adapted into performances that travelers might encounter unexpectedly within the attraction.China · Daxin

The Ten Thousand Mountains are truly delightful. Waterfalls cascade down the mountainside, forming numerous pools. Right at the entrance to the scenic area is a large medicinal pool, cool and refreshing – a truly soothing place to soak in on a hot summer day. Camping is available nearby; RVs or tents are both fine, costing only 30 yuan per night.

-- READ THIS FOR FULL TRAVEL DETAILS --We did this trip without much information available online, so we might as well now share what we learned.GETTING THERE: The easiest starting point is Shangsi (上思) Town with many nice hotels to stay overnight. From there you can either get a driver to come here or take a local bus. We also asked around about renting an E-Scooter, but were recommended against that, because it is quite far. The bus leaves from 明江市场(西门) bus station (not the main bus station!), but at the other side of the street (in front of a pharmacy). It leaves at random timings (about every 20-45 minutes probably), so just go there early and wait for the next one. It's 10 Yuan per person, takes about one hour and will end right at the entrance of the park.GETTING BACK: The last bus will leave from the same spot at 4PM. Don't miss it :)FACILITIES: There are plenty of restaurants, small shops and a toilet around the ticket office (one ticket is 35 Yuan). Make sure to stack up in everything you might need: We did not see other toilets/ shops/ restaurants within the park, except for some herbal speciality souvenirs.THE SIGHTS: We were pleasengly surprised by the beautiful scenery and the trekking trails. We went on a Sunday during Chinese summer holidays and still there were very few other people. The nature is beautiful and you can walking next to a nice river stream.HIKING: We started going up a mountain peak (black path on the right side of the map). The path was super nice and lead straight through the jungle/ bamboo forest. Be aware though, that there are A LOT of steps to climb! Also, there is a sign at the path staring that the mountain round path takes 4 hours, so plan enough time.SWIMMING/ PLAYING IN THE WATER: A blessing after hiking! The water was just perfect: Nice and refreshing & super clean. Once you pass the second bridge there is even a natural swimming pool (slightly deeper water) with an improvised changing room for 1 Yuan.

It's definitely worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful, and the air is rich in negative ions. I especially loved the part where we walked through the bamboo forest. The longest route takes 7-8 hours, but the water was absolutely crystal clear and stunning.

When we arrived, there were no monkeys. The staff specifically reminded us that tickets weren't being sold at that time, so everyone waited in the lobby for a while until the monkeys appeared before entering in groups. The policy was very considerate. The monkeys were cute and not afraid of people; you could walk right up to them to see them, which was a unique experience.

Detian Waterfall is magnificent and beautiful, separated from Vietnam by only a river. Sitting on a bamboo raft overlooking the waterfall, Vietnamese villagers also rode rafts, holding onto ours with one hand while trying to sell Vietnamese coffee with the other, speaking Mandarin that was understandable. This scene of two countries separated by a single river was quite interesting.

This hotel is perfect for a chill vacation. The ocean view is unbeatable and definitely worth returning to. The service is excellent, and the hotel feels like a small estate with great privacy. This is why I chose it. If I had to suggest something, I'd appreciate the addition of a high-definition projector with a retractable motorized screen. Also, I'd like to upgrade the hairdryer to a Dyson. Otherwise, it's practically perfect.

The place is not easy to find, so I followed the navigation. When I got there, the gate was very grand, and I thought it was pretty good. But... I can only say it is suitable for children to play. It's pretty good, but it seems that it is not yet completed, and there are still constructions everywhere.

Take a boat trip on the Blackwater River. The scenery on both banks is beautiful, with vast sugarcane fields. After disembarking, a short walk will reveal a sea of flowers, perfect for taking photos. Then, visit the filming locations of "The Journey of Flower." The water of Bilongtan is clear and green. Finally, take a sightseeing bus back. The trip can take about three hours.
