Harbin Drug Group Pharmaceutical Factory 6 is an old factory complex in Harbin, now a popular check-in spot dubbed the "Louvre of Northeast China." The main building, completed in 2004 with construction and decoration costs nearing CNY 100 million, bears a striking resemblance to France's Louvre, blending classical, Baroque, and Rococo European styles. Its exterior features intricate three-dimensional carvings and reliefs, with columns, doors, and windows each showcasing unique designs, creating a majestic vista from afar. Inside, the scene shifts dramatically: layers of golden ornaments adorn the space, and a massive crystal chandelier cascades from the upper floors to the second-floor hall. The corridors display European oil paintings and sculptures, earning it the playful nickname "Versailles of the Northeast." The building also houses a printmaking museum, with multiple exhibition halls showcasing works by printmakers from Heilongjiang and across China, worth lingering over. Founded in 1977, this historic pharmaceutical factory was once famous for products like Gaizhonggai, Yandi, and Hutong. After relocating entirely in 2021, the old site lay idle until reopening to the public in 2024. Its "palace-like" complex quickly went viral, attracting over a million visitors to date, making it a flagship destination for industrial tourism in Harbin. For the best experience, enter through the northeast gate, explore from the upper floors downward, and don't miss the printmaking exhibits, corridor paintings, or the grand chandelier. The main building's frontal view is partially obscured by an overpass and heavy traffic, making full shots challenging, but the exterior carvings, ground-floor hall, and colonnades offer excellent photo opportunities for a leisurely stroll.China · Harbin

The Sun Island Scenic Area is a small island located on the north bank of the Songhua River in Harbin City. In the early years, the Manchu people fished and hunted here. The Songhua River is rich in squid. In the Manchu language, the pronunciation of this type of fish is very similar to the pronunciation of "Sun" in Chinese. It has been known as "Sun Island" ever since the name was passed down a long time ago. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, Sun Island was developed and utilized as a naval battalion, and was later used as a base for the navy to reconnoiter and train. Today, the natural scenery of Sun Island is exceptionally beautiful, and the landscape inside the park represents a perfect interpretation of the harmony between humankind and nature. The island has plenty of European villa buildings, where the Russian people come to spend their summer breaks.China · Harbin

The Exhibition Hall of Evidence of Crime by Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army is a site museum built on the former site of Unit 731, where the museum buildings and over 20 surrounding ruins form a complex of historical sites serving as evidence. The core of the visit is the new "Black Box" hall completed in 2015, a black building half-embedded into a rift in the ground. The main exhibition inside is themed "Crimes Against Humanity." The outdoor ruins area is also worth a close look: the headquarters building was the unit's administrative command center, with offices on the east side of the second floor. In its central corridor stands the easily missed wall of victims' names, with 3,000 black stone tablets arranged neatly, most engraved with the names of victims, and the rest left for those who remain unidentified. Ruins including the bacterial laboratory and special prison of the Square Building, the boiler room, the crematorium, and the frostbite laboratory remain direct evidence of the crimes, despite the damage from explosions during the retreat and erosion over time. The atmosphere inside the museum is solemn, and many visitors offer flowers or leave messages in front of the wall of names.China · Harbin

Daliangzihe National Forest Park is located in Tangyuan County, Heilongjiang Province. It is located at the southern foot of Xiaoxing'an Mountains. It has thousand-year-old red pines, 10,000 acres of forest, and anti-Japanese anti-Japanese relics. It is known as the "Pearl of the Three Rivers and the Jade of Xing'an". With a total area of 7175 hectares, it is a national 4A tourist attraction. It mainly includes original red pine forest, giant tree island, Yuanyang Lake, Yuanhai Temple, Northeast Anti-Japanese War Sixth Army Headquarters ruins and other scenic spots. It is a well-known brand demonstration area for the scenery of red pine mother forests in the country. The original red pine forest is the main landscape of Daliangzi River National Forest Park. With a total area of 2,400 hectares, it is one of the few remaining original red pine forests in my country. "The water is clear and the rocks can be counted. There are no birds calling each other in the deep forest." The tall trees with dense branches block out the sun, and they are majestic. The tall and majestic red pine kings stand up to the sky; the century-old poplars with different expressions on the giant tree island stand towering; the white birch forest is stacked with mountains and hills; the hanging trees have different expressions. The roots hang on the earth; the roots of the Golden Toad Spear tree are as thick as giant claws coiled around the Golden Toad stone, and the rocks are surrounded by pines and rocks, interpreting the century-old relationship between pines and rocks. Being in the forest oxygen bar, immersed in the vast forest sea, looking up at the tall trees, breathing the fresh air, enjoying the natural fragrance of the trees, listening to the sounds of water and birds, relaxing the mind, it can be said that heaven and man are one. Known as the "Castle in the Sky", the tree houses are built on top of mountain peaks and suspended in the woods. It is the best place to listen to the pine waves, view the forest and sea, and taste pine tea. The Northeast Anti-Union Secret Camp Site is the most complete preserved Anti-Union Secret Camp site in Northeast China. It is an important revolutionary base for the Northeast Anti-Japanese War and a famous patriotic education base in Heilongjiang Province. In 2008, the Sixth Anti-Japanese Army headquarters, clothing factory, machinery repair shop, military and political cadre school and other sites were rebuilt at a 1:1 ratio. It reproduces the arduous fighting life of the Anti-Japanese War fighters at that time. On this basis, the Northeast Anti-Japanese War film and television base was built, and many film and television works with Northeast Anti-Japanese War themes such as "On the Songhua River" were shot here. This is a revolutionary traditional education base and a key red tourism scenic spot. While feeling nature, people can step on the anti-Union road again, drink anti-Union water again, accept revolutionary traditional education in a subtle way, and inspire patriotism.

"First came Fujia Dian, then Harbin." During the Qianlong era, immigrants from within the Great Wall gradually settled in Harbin. Later, more people migrated to Northeast China, and the Daowai area gradually became a bustling hub for daily life and commerce. In the early 20th century, with Tsarist Russia's ambition to plunder Northeast China's resources, the construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway began, gradually forming a Chinese Baroque architectural complex with a "Western style outside, Chinese style inside." However, upon closer inspection, the exterior wall reliefs do not depict Western angels, but rather pomegranates, bats, peonies, and toads—symbols of many children, blessings, wealth, and peace—truly reflecting the deep-seated cultural confidence of Chinese merchants.

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is currently in the process of moving to its new building. Because the old exhibition hall is a small historical building, the number of exhibits is limited. The currently on-exhibition exhibition, "A Thousand Years of Porcelain Charm and Radiant Glazes: Fine Porcelain from the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum Collection," features 500 representative pieces (sets) selected from the museum's porcelain collection. These pieces are divided into two main sections based on glaze color and decoration: one category is colored glaze porcelain, and the other is painted porcelain. Many of the exhibits are exquisite.

As a non-chinese, you could ask the security staff for entry because scanning QR code to book a visit doesn't work for foreigners. I was surprised that the Chinese government took a lot of effort for this museum because the whole building is designed and built just for this particular exhibition. The whole exhibition doesn't show gruesome pictures or is scary as many might think. Instead, it is very eye opening by giving you a fuller picture and different angles of what this is all about, not just one side. However, as a lot of evidences related with the experiment were destroyed by Japanese Imperial Army or given to the Americans to grant amnesty for those involved, there are a lot of testimony content by the staff when the unit 731 was operational, which could or couldn't be fact checked. If you like anything related with WW 2, this museum is a must visit. Definitely there is no such museum in Japan but countries like Korea, China or Singapore who experienced atrocities from Japan during the war.
