The Shijiahe Site Museum is a great place to learn about the 5,000-year-old civilization of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The museum is free, but advance reservations are required. The museum's prized possession, the "First Phoenix of China," a jade phoenix, is a must-see. The prehistoric jade craftsmanship is astonishing, and the numerous pottery, jade figures, and jade tiger exhibits are truly impressive. The exhibition halls feature digital sand tables and AR interactive elements, explaining the ancient city, rice cultivation, and ancient sacrificial rituals in an accessible way, making it ideal for history enthusiasts and families.
The park is large. In addition to the indoor exhibition halls, you can also visit the Yinxintai and Sanfangwan sites to see real archaeological platforms. The walking performance "Seeing Shijiahe" requires a separate ticket and offers a polarized experience; the elderly and children should be cautious, as it involves standing and walking throughout and is quite physically demanding.
