Trulli, Rione Monti

Trulli, Rione Monti is one of the best-preserved complexes of conical stone dwellings in Europe. Trulli are a unique type of dry-stone construction built without mortar, relying solely on limestone blocks stacked in layers, with conical roofs formed by stones corbelled outward layer by layer. This architectural technique dates back to prehistoric times and is still used in the Itria Valley today. Originally scattered across the countryside as farmhouses, animal shelters, or storage for farm tools, Alberobello is where these trulli are clustered together. The town preserves over 1,500 trulli, mainly concentrated in two areas: the Rione Monti district in the south features approx. 1,000 conical-roofed houses, with various handicraft shops lining the streets, and many shop owners invite visitors inside to see the interior structure of the trulli; the Rione Aia Piccola district is smaller and retains a more authentic residential character, with no commercial shops, offering a quieter atmosphere perfect for a leisurely stroll. As you wander through, you will see layers of white limestone walls and gray conical roofs.Italy · Alberobello

Sorrento is located near the Bay of Naples, with the entire town built atop seaside cliffs. The famous Italian song "Come Back to Sorrento" sings of this very town. The song has been sung for a century and has become a unique cultural symbol of Sorrento. The 16th-century poet Tasso was also born here, and the town square is named after him. The town is surrounded by lemon groves and olive trees, and Limoncello, a lemon liqueur made from local lemons, is a signature specialty of Sorrento. Piazza Torquato Tasso is the central starting point for sightseeing. Next to the square is the Valley of the Mills, a deep gorge embedded in the heart of the city, where abandoned old mills remain at the bottom, overgrown with vegetation. The Cloister of San Francesco was built in the 14th century, with arches and columns arranged in an interlaced pattern along the cloister. Museo Correale houses medieval sculptures, paintings, and local decorative arts, while the Museum of Wood Inlay is dedicated to showcasing the wood inlay craftsmanship that has continued in Sorrento for hundreds of years. Looking out from the edge of the cliffs, you can see the silhouette of Mount Vesuvius and Capri. The streets and alleys of the old town are winding, and the Marina Grande fishing village on the coast retains a rustic atmosphere, with colorful houses arranged along the harbor.Italy · Sorrento
Amalfi Coast

Amalfi Coast

4.8/5
102 reviews
Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula in the province of Salerno, southern Italy. It extends from Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare in the east, with over a dozen coastal towns built into the cliffs along the way. Steep cliffs, terraced hillsides, and the deep blue Tyrrhenian Sea form the core scenery here. The terraces are planted with lemon trees, grapevines, and olive trees, presenting a typical Mediterranean coastal landscape. The representative towns along the coast each have their own unique characteristics. Positano is famous for its cascading colorful houses and steep stone steps, with buildings clinging to the hillside from the beach upwards; the town of Amalfi was once the center of a medieval maritime republic, and it is filled with narrow alleys and staircases, where the facade of theCathedral of St. Andrew, blending Arab and Norman styles, is a landmark of the town; Ravello sits high on a ridge, and the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone offer views overlooking the entire coastline, among which the "Terrace of Infinity" at Villa Cimbrone is a viewing spot for a panoramic view of the coast. Vietri sul Mare is known for its traditional handmade ceramics, and colorful pottery shops can be seen everywhere in the town. The "Path of the Gods" from Agerola to Positano is a classic hiking route. It follows the ridge, offering high-altitude views of the coastline and the full panorama of the towns along the way. The region is famous for a slender variety of Amalfi lemon, and the local limoncello made from it is also a specialty. The coastal road is winding and narrow, prone to traffic jams in summer, and ferries are also available for travel between the towns.Italy · Amalfi
Stair of the Turks

Stair of the Turks

4.8/5
16 reviews
Stair of the Turks is a stretch of white cliff on the southwest coast of Sicily. The entire cliff is composed of soft white marl, and the rock layers have been polished by wind and waves over the years, rising from the sea in layers like natural steps, which is how it got the name "Stair." The "Turks" part comes from North African pirates, whom the locals collectively called "Turks" in the Middle Ages. They often used this sheltered white cliff as a place to dock and hide. This layer of white rock was formed by the calcareous remains of countless tiny plankton deposited on the seabed during an ancient era when the Mediterranean Sea nearly dried up and was subsequently refilled, and marine fossils can still be found in the rock layers today. The white cliffs are flanked by golden beaches, with blue-green seawater surging against the pure white base of the cliffs. At sunset, the white rock surface reflects faint pink and orange hues, making it a classic time for sightseeing and photography. It became more widely known after the movie "Malèna" was filmed here, and it was also written about by Italian author Andrea Camilleri in his "Inspector Montalbano" series. The white cliff rock is soft and easily weathered, and there is an observation deck at the top of the cliff, which is an open spot for overlooking the entire coastline.Italy · Realmonte

117 reviews
Mount Etna is located on the east coast of Sicily and is the highest active volcano in Europe, with an altitude of more than 3,200 meters. This is also the most frequently erupted volcano in the world, with more than 200 smaller volcanic cones around it, and during periods of intense activity, a large amount of lava often flows out. Tourists can take the ropeway cable car, and then transfer to the special sightseeing bus for mountaineering to arrive near the crater, and watch the lava flow and hot spring waterfall, as well as the unique landscape of the black volcanic heap. In summer, there are also outdoor activities such as volcano trekking groups, and the scenery at the top at sunset is particularly beautiful. If you are interested and have time, you can sign up. In winter, it turns into a ski area.Italy · Castiglione di Sicilia

Piazza IX Aprile is the heart of the old town of Taormina. The square is paved with striking black-and-white checkerboard tiles and features an open viewing railing on the side facing the sea. From the railing, you can take in the panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, the bay, and the distant volcano, making it a distinctive viewing terrace with magnificent vistas. The square is surrounded by a wealth of cultural architecture: the old clock tower stands tall, with a Baroque-style church nearby and quaint historical buildings on the other side, where different architectural styles interweave to create a rich old-town atmosphere. During the day, it feels like a lively open-air living room, where street performers and the terraces of surrounding cafes complement each other. At dusk, the setting sun bathes the church facade and clock tower in warm colors, casting long shadows across the checkerboard tiles and showcasing the charming character of a Mediterranean town.Italy · Taormina

Quattro Canti is a distinctive intersection formed by the crossing of two main streets in the heart of the old town of Palermo. It is famous for the exquisite Baroque architecture at its four corners, and locals also call it the Theater of the Sun. The square has an octagonal plan, with concave curved walls adorned with layered columns, embracing the intersection like an exquisite stage set, showcasing a unique architectural aesthetic. The building facades on the four sides of the intersection are decorated in multiple layers from bottom to top: the ground level is adorned with fountains and statues symbolizing the four seasons, the middle level features sculptures of past rulers in niches, and the top level is carved with the city's patron saints, with intricate reliefs and layered colonnades weaving together a rich visual depth. This intersection, full of local atmosphere, is surrounded by numerous historical and cultural sights. Strolling through the old town, you can encounter this magnificent architectural complex at a turn; its unique octagonal spatial layout and ornate carved details form the iconic cityscape of the old town of Palermo.Italy · Palermo

When the weather is good, this place is absolutely beautiful, so my reminder is to make sure the sky is clear before you go, so that the photos will look good. Otherwise, if it is gray, although it is also beautiful, the photos taken will not have that fairy-tale feeling. The photos below were taken on a cloudy day, so the sky is not very blue. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially in the summer. It is very beautiful. There are many special shops, restaurants, cafes and places for handmade leather products.

Everything is very close, you have so many chances to meet celebrities, politicians in cafes or restaurants.but if you are not ready to pay 2000€ for one night in hotel, you could visit the island just with day trip by boat

Taormina, in the past, many writers, poets, and stars would come here for vacation. Many beautiful legends and scenery about Taormina were left in novels. There are many orange trees here, the sun is shining, and there must be a cathedral in Piazza 9 April.

We came out of the cathedral and walked along the avenue towards the sea, and we saw several very classic attractions, and this quadrangular field is one of them! Not far away is the famous fountain of shame. We walked around the center point and it was really a very beautiful building!
