City Palace

4.6/5
79 reviews
This majestic city palace is built with balconies, watchtowers and forts. It is the largest palace in Rajasthan. The front wall is 244 meters long and 30.4 meters high. The view over the lake and the whole city from the rooftop on the upper level of the palace is amazing. After centuries of ups and downs, the building, which was originally a princely palace, is now divided into four sections for management. The main body of the palace has been built into the City Palace Museum (CityPalaceMuseum), which houses a large number of different types of historical relics. If you come here in the morning, you can see that under the sunlight, the entire palace is resplendent and magnificent. As soon as you enter the palace, you will find that there are furniture and decorations from all over Rajasthan, as well as Persia and Europe. And the surrounding walls are even more wonderful and ingenious. The peacock on the balcony on the upper floor is made of glass and mirrors, which makes people sigh at the infinite wisdom and superb skills of ancient craftsmen.Udaipur · 995m from downtown

Monsoon Palace was the summer palace for Udaipur royalty, perched on a hilltop. It offered a cool retreat, and its elevated position meant it was safe from the monsoon floods that could engulf the city below. Not only does it offer a panoramic view of the entire White City, but it is also a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. Built in the late 19th century by Maharana Sajjan Singh, this palace stands atop a remote peak, evoking a slightly melancholic air, as if straight out of a fairy tale. It was originally intended to be an astronomical center, before being converted into the Monsoon Palace.Udaipur · 5.8km from downtown

Jagdish Temple is a temple in Udaipur, featuring intricate carvings on its walls and exterior, located just 150m north of the City Palace entrance. It was built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh. Inside, the temple houses a black stone statue of Lord Krishna in his avatar as Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe. A bronze statue of Garuda (Vishnu's half-man, half-bird mount) stands on a pedestal in front of the temple, and elephant sculptures flank the steps. Visitors here seem to be moved by these sculptures. Everyone is so solemn, and everything about this place commands respect. It’s a wonderful experience to walk over and soak in this solemn atmosphere after exploring the City Palace.Udaipur · 1.2km from downtown

Gangaur Ghat, nestled on the shores of Lake Pichola, is an important venue for local cultural and folk activities. Built along the lake, with stone steps leading down to the water, it embodies the classic Indian lakeside architectural style. It's not only an ideal spot for enjoying the lake views, but also a great place to experience local traditional festivals and folk culture. Every year, residents of Udaipur gather at Gangaur Ghat to celebrate the Gangaur Festival, a festival primarily dedicated to praying for family happiness and successful marriages. During the festival, the pier is decorated with ornate statues and colorful lanterns, and devotees and tourists gather to participate in traditional rituals and folk performances. The pier is beautifully landscaped, with the clear waters of the lake visible from afar, creating a unique lakeside city scene.Udaipur · 1.4km from downtown

Although Rajasthan is regarded as a desert state in India, Udaipur alone is rich in water and is known as "Venice in the Desert" and "Lake City". Lake Pichola, located to the west of the city, is the soul of Udaipur. Because of Lake Pichola, Udaipur can become an oasis in the arid Gobi Desert of Rajasthan, full of vitality. Lake Pichola is vast and clear, with blue-gray mountains reflected in its mirror-like waves. Maharaja Uday Singh II, after establishing his city, flooded the village of Picholi with water, expanding the area of the lake from which it got its name. Lake Pichola has two small islands, each with a palace, one is JagMandir, which was built in 1620 and is famous for its marble statues, and the other is called JagNiwas. Small island, it is the heart of Udaipur. In JagNiwas, the base of the building on the island is connected to the waterline, the island is the building, and the building is the island. At first glance, it looks like a white sanctuary bred under water, standing upright in the water, looking from afar. Go, like floating on the water, this palace is the water palace that makes Udaipur famous all over the world - the palace in the lake.Udaipur · 1.3km from downtown

The JagMandir Lake Palace is located on an island in the southern part of Lake Pichola. It was built in 1551 and is now a hotel. The main building of the palace has some exhibitions introducing the history of the island, and there are 8 elephant stone sculptures on the side. You need to take a boat to get here, and you can only enter if you stay inside. There is also a garden with frangipani trees in the palace, which is very beautiful.Udaipur · 1.5km from downtown

Visiting City Palace was a highlight of my trip. The intricate architecture and the blend of Rajasthani and Mughal styles are breathtaking. I particularly loved the Peacock Courtyard and the museum displays which are very well-maintained. It took about two hours to see everything properly. Highly recommend hiring a guide to hear the stories behind the royal family!

It costs 150-200 rupees to take a tuk-tuk near the City Palace to the foot of the Monsoon Palace. There is a long way up the mountain from the foot of the mountain to the Monsoon Palace at the top of the mountain. You need to take their "taxi", which costs 90 rupees per person for a round trip. The ticket is also purchased at the ticket office, and then you just need to wait for the bus at the gate. Obviously, this is a good place to see the whole city. But I don't think it is a good place to watch the sunset. The sun sets in the direction of the mountains, but you can't see the city and the lake, and the wind is very strong at the top of the mountain.

Jagdish Temple is one of the finest architectural wonders of the Mewar Dynasty. Jagdish Temple showcases the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. The temple was built keeping in mind the rules of Vastu Shastra, the Hindu science of architecture. The three-storeyed temple is built on a high platform and features magnificent suspended pillars, huge airy halls and painted walls adorned with bright colours and intricate ceilings. Two huge stone elephant statues are placed at the entrance to welcome the visitors.

It is an artificial lake with three small islands. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake from a yacht or take a leisurely stroll in the park on the island. This is the largest man-made lake in Ubud and a favorite lake for locals to visit in their spare time.

Horrific service and worst staff attitude. Didn't get food after waiting for an hour on the table and asking several times to serve us, while others who came after us were seated and served food and drinks. Hospitality was out the window somewhere in the garbage and we are certain that the discrimination done was purely because we were women. The manager had no idea or interest about the operations of the restaurant/bar as he was too busy sending his customers away to other restaurants like Khamma Ghani. The only saving grace is the location, but you can't satiate your hunger by looking at the view. Very very very disgraceful for a place that overlooks the royal palace. What a shame on the soil of Rajas and Maharajas. I'm sorry Udaipur, Ambrai restaurant ruined your name forever for us for being pathetically chauvinistic.
