Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, Germany, near the Austrian border and not far from the small town of Füssen. Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a tribute to composer Wagner and inspired by the legend of the "Swan Knight" Lohengrin, construction began in 1869. Its fairy-tale appearance—white walls, blue domes, and scattered spires—served as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is perennially regarded as Germany's tourism icon. The castle interior was originally planned to have over 200 rooms, but by the time of the king's death in 1886, only a dozen had been completed, each exquisitely crafted. The throne hall's dome is painted with a star-studded blue night sky, while the floor features mosaic patterns of flora and fauna, with a chandelier modeled after a Byzantine crown hanging high above. The Gothic double bed in the king's bedroom took over four years to carve by more than a dozen sculptors. The relatively large singers' hall in the castle, adorned with murals of "Lohengrin" and "Parsifal," was modeled after the Wartburg singers' hall and still hosts concerts every September. Swan motifs are nearly omnipresent, appearing in murals, door handles, and washstands. Interestingly, this medieval-inspired castle was already equipped with telephones, central heating, hot water, and automatic flushing toilets at the time, making it remarkably advanced for its era. To capture the classic postcard-perfect shot, head to Marienbrücke. This pedestrian bridge, suspended over the Pöllat Gorge, faces the southern facade of the castle and is not far from the bus drop-off point. It gets crowded in the afternoon, so an early visit is recommended. You can take the shuttle bus, a horse-drawn carriage, or hike up the mountain. The hiking route offers a bird's-eye view of the castle, and along the way, you can also see the yellow Hohenschwangau Castle, the old royal palace on the opposite hill. The castle's ending carries a touch of tragedy: Ludwig II built it with his private funds and loans, facing strong opposition from his ministers. On a late night in June 1886, he was arrested in his castle bedroom and mysteriously died days later by Lake Starnberg. Seven weeks later, the castle opened to the public. Today, visiting the interior requires following a guide, and photography is prohibited inside. Live guides provide commentary in English or German, while an audio guide is available for Chinese. Visitor guide To the castle There are three ways to reach the castle: taking the shuttle bus, riding a carriage, or going on foot. Most people choose to take the shuttle bus, then walk a short distance to Neuschwanstein Castle, where there is a viewing platform to overlook another castle—Hohenschwangau. You can also reach the castle by carriage, where you can enjoy picturesque scenery along the way, and the witty carriage driver will share legendary stories that happened here. After disembarking, it's just a short walk to the castle entrance. If you don't want to wait in line for the shuttle bus or prefer outdoor activities, you can also hike to Neuschwanstein Castle. Along the way, you can capture an aerial view of the castle, and there are relatively fewer travelers. Take a postcard-perfect photo of the castle Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) is located near the terminal stop of the uphill bus. This 100 m-high bridge spans between two cliffs, with its floor made of wooden planks that slightly bounce when stepped on. Here, you can capture the famous postcard-perfect shot of Neuschwanstein Castle. If you arrive early before your scheduled visit time, you can first head to Marienbrücke to photograph the beautiful view of Neuschwanstein Castle, as the bridge gets overcrowded after noon. Guided tour To visit the castle interior, you must follow the official guide. The guide provides services in English and German. You can also choose to use an audio guide (available in Chinese). After the visit, you can take a short break at the café inside the castle.Germany · Schwangau

Dolomites are located in the southern foothills of the Alps and are renowned for their unique dolomite landscape. Unlike other mountain ranges in the Alps, the mountains here are primarily composed of dolomite, with vertical fractures in the rock forming jagged ridges and steep cliffs. At sunrise and sunset, the dolomite reflects warm hues ranging from pink to deep red. This light phenomenon is known as alpenglow, and it is one of the natural phenomena of the Dolomites. Multiple iconic landscapes are distributed along the mountain range: the jagged ridge of Seceda pierces the sky, with alpine meadows spreading out at its feet; the three massive rock peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo rise abruptly, forming the iconic skyline of the Dolomites. Summer is the primary season for hiking, with numerous trails crossing alpine meadows and pine forests, dotted with family-run mountain huts along the way for rest and dining. In winter, the Dolomites transform into a ski destination, with ski slopes connecting multiple valleys. The entire region blends Italian and Austrian culture, with architectural styles featuring characteristics of both.Rocca Pietore · 50.6km from Valles

Alpe di Siusiis a vast alpine meadow stretching across a plateau. Unlike the sharp, jagged peaks common in the Dolomites, the terrain here is gentle and open, with traditional wooden huts and herds of cattle scattered among the rolling green waves of grass. To the west are uniquely shaped peaks, while to the east stand towering, grayish-white rock walls. The magnificent panorama, surrounded by mountains, creates a unique landscape. Trails crisscross the plateau, featuring both gentle loop routes and paths that lead deep into the heart of the pastures, with wooden huts along the way serving local specialty cheeses and wine. On sunny days, cloud shadows sweep across the meadows, making for a pleasant scene. Traditional alpine grazing customs have long been preserved here. In early summer, wildflowers bloom, and in the fall, the traditional scene of herders driving cattle down the mountain showcases a rich pastoral charm. In the early morning, mist drifts over the grassy slopes, while in the evening, the sunset dyes the rock walls in warm colors. This place is suitable for all seasons: spring and summer are perfect for hiking and cycling, while in winter, it transforms into a vast ski area, showcasing a rich and diverse mountain landscape.Castelrotto · 33.1km from Valles

We choose the horse carriage ride up, it was €8 a person. It took around 20 minutes and we enjoyed the forest view. Make sure to arrive and park at least an hour early. The entrance time is exact to every 5 minutes for crowd control. The entrance ticket includes an audio set and takes around 30 minutes. You are moved thru the rooms rather quickly. There are free lockers at information at the entrance area if needed. No pictures can be taken during the tour. **not handicapped friendly ** must be able to walk for 2-3 hours and climb up and down many flights of stairs. There are no elevators. We planned to walk down but it began to rain. So we took the horse carriage again -/€4/person.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain destinations, offering an unforgettable experience high in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by magnificent snow-covered peaks, vast glaciers, and breathtaking alpine scenery, the journey to the summit is an adventure itself. The panoramic views from the top are truly mesmerizing, especially on a clear day when the mountains seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon. Walking through the snowy landscape feels like entering a winter wonderland. The impressive Aletsch Glacier adds even more beauty to the experience. Jungfraujoch is a must-visit destination for travelers who love mountains, snow, photography, and extraordinary natural landscapes.

Staying near Ortisei, I went to Blade's Edge Mountain first, then drove 36 minutes to the P2 parking lot of the Hughes Plateau. I parked there for less than 3 hours and was charged 28.5 euros. Then I walked to the popular spot to take pictures of the sunrise on the Golden Mountain. It was super beautiful, but a little difficult to walk. It was about 8 kilometers round trip and took a total of 2 hours. Don't drive on the road inside, otherwise you will encounter a sky-high ticket. There was a 👮 who kept an eye on every foreign vehicle along the way. It was beautiful.
