Werribee Park

5.8

Werribee Park is located in the southwestern suburbs of Melbourne. It was originally the estate of the Chirnside family, Scottish pastoralists in the 19th century. The Werribee Park Mansion in the park was built in the 1870s. Its Italianate sandstone facade, featuring columns and arcades, makes it a representative private estate mansion in Victoria. The billiard room, master bedroom, drawing room, and parts of the kitchen are still displayed in their original state. In front of the mansion lies a formal garden covering approx. 10 hectares, where manicured lawns are dotted with uniquely shaped grottoes and ornamental lakes. Nearby, the Victoria State Rose Garden is designed in the shape of a Tudor rose. During the blooming season, the approx. 5,000 roses look like a blooming rose when viewed from above. The Contemporary Sculpture Walk extends from the side of the mansion through the garden to the banks of the Werribee River, with many contemporary sculptures scattered along the way, and the riverside vegetation is gradually being restored to its native state. The park also houses the Werribee Open Range Zoo, the National Equestrian Centre, the Mansion Hotel & Conference Centre, and a boutique winery, making it suitable for a full day of leisurely exploration. The arcade on the steps in front of the mansion and the central flower bed in the rose garden are great spots for photos; if you visit during the blooming season, the rose garden is worth spending more time in.

The "forest secret" inside the museum is located at the center of the building, creating an ecosystem identical to the natural environment and showcasing the trees, plants, wildlife, and insects of the Victorian Alps. Walking into the forest corridor, you will see approx. 8,000 Australian plants planted here. In addition, the insect exhibition area and evolution area showcase the mysteries of the biological world. The style museum has a highly modern design, and next to itRoyal exhibition hallThis forms a striking contrast with the classical style. SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is located on the banks of the Yarra River, with a building designed to resemble a boat moored by the river; its interior extends several meters underground and features 12 themed exploration zones, connected by a one-way visitor route that links diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical coral reefs to Antarctic ice and snow. Penguin Playground is a much-loved exhibition area in the aquarium, where you can observe king penguins and gentoo penguins up close as they swim and play in a real ice and snow environment. The circular oceanarium at the center of the aquarium is another highlight, where visitors can walk around and watch large marine life such as sharks and rays swimming beside them. The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria - Melbourne Gardens is located on the south bank of the Yarra River, covering approx. 38 hectares. The garden cultivates more than 8,000 plant species from around the world, distributed across multiple themed collection areas, featuring both tree-lined avenues shaded by towering ancient oaks and delicate, exquisite floral display areas, with scenery that varies across the four seasons. The ornamental lake in the garden is popular among visitors, its surface reflecting the layered tree canopies around it, while black swans often glide serenely across the water; the lakeside lawns are a great spot for rest and picnics. The historic Melbourne Observatory is also located within the gardens, regularly hosting stargazing events and night tours, where visitors have the opportunity to observe the night sky from within a historic building. The garden also houses a herbarium, which holds approx. 1.5 million plant and fungi specimens.

A fantastic museum experience! The entire exhibition hall was beautifully designed, offering an immersive and interactive experience suitable for people of all ages. It allowed for close-up observation of dinosaur fossils and showcased different periods of Australian culture. I recommend allocating 4 to 5 hours for a visit.

I have completed summit of various tallest buildings and observatory decks. However Eureka Towers lacks the punch or experience and assuming that I was never designed from a commercial aspects. However being jn CBD, it does offer some spectacular views and photographic opportunities. But challenge always remains that Wearher should support u. The GenZ experiences like EDGE and VR are there but can be much better. Felt they are not value for money.

Lovely place to walk past on the way to the Melbourne museum. This time of the year, there’s autumn leaves covering the walkways. There is even a small pond with some ducks in the corner. And right in front of the royal exhibition hall, there is a fountain where sometimes you will catch couples taking their wedding photos here.

The National Gallery of Victoria is an absolute must-visit when in Melbourne! As Australia’s oldest and most visited art museum, NGV effortlessly blends history, culture, and creativity under one magnificent roof. From classical masterpieces to bold contemporary installations, every exhibit is thoughtfully curated to spark curiosity and inspiration. One of the highlights was the stunning Great Hall with its dazzling stained-glass ceiling—lying beneath.
