Dongshan island is located in the south of Zhangzhou, Fujian. It is a trendy island with beautiful scenery and simple folk customs. The scene in the movie "The Left Ear" where the little girl cries by the sea was filmed at Nanmen bay on the island. Due to the popularity of the movie, Nanmen bay has become one of the top attractions for tourism on Dongshan island. In addition, other attractions here each have their own unique features. The iconic wind-eroded rock is a must-visit photo spot on Dongshan Island. It is said that this rock sways with just a breeze, appearing as if it might fall at any moment, which is truly fascinating. Not far from the wind-eroded rock lies the widows' village, which is actually a museum. When the army retreated from Dongshan Island, they took away the young men, leaving the women in the village as "widows." The museum showcases the entire event, with historical photos and reliefs that vividly recreate the history of that time. When visiting Dongshan Island, you can stay for a day or two to savor fresh local seafood, experience the joy of fishing firsthand, then bask in the sun on the fine sandy beaches. Enjoy playing in the water and riding the waves with the sea breeze, making the most of your coastal getaway.Dongshan County · 10.2km from downtown

Nanmen Bay has a vast bay, gentle sandy beaches, and shaded trees, which are very characteristic of the coastal scenery of the southern country. The fishing boats moored at sea here are in harmony with the people fishing in the sea. The blue sky and the sea meet in the distance. The beautiful scenery has attracted the filming of the movie "Left Ear" and the variety show "We Are Coming". Nanmen Bay in the morning is a good place to watch the sunrise, with the blue sea on one side and characteristic ancient villages on the other. When the sun slowly rises from the sea level, the red clouds dye the sea red, and the scene is very spectacular. In Nanmen Bay at night, the villages are brightly lit, and the night sky is dotted with flickering lights. You can touch crabs and look for shells under the rocks, or have a picnic and barbecue to experience the joy of life on the island.Dongshan County · 10.5km from downtown

Daimei Village

Daimei Village is an ancient Minnan village surrounded by water on all four sides. In the fifth year of the Jingtai reign of the Ming Dynasty, Chen Shijin, a descendant of the Kai-Zhang Saint King Chen Yuanguang, established the village here. For over 500 years since, the Chen clan has lived here. Viewed from the air, the clusters of ancient houses seem to float on the water, which is why it is called the "Zhouzhuang of Minnan." The village's highlight lies in its rare architectural order. The Chen clan has strictly adhered to the ancestral instruction that "house construction must not exceed ancestral regulations" for generations, emphasizing five unifications in building: orientation, site selection, style, supporting facilities, and drainage. More than 40 ancient Ming and Qing Dynasty houses all face south to north, arranged symmetrically along the central axis in a nine-palace grid. More than 200 new residences built after the 1960s all face north to south, with new and old houses clearly distinguished but never crossing boundaries. The roofs are all of the hard-hill style with curved swallow-tail ridges, covered with red tiles and built with brick and stone walls. The craftsmanship of wood carving, brick carving, and clay sculpture can be seen on the beams, arches, and window patterns. The Dabi ancient house in the center of the village is said to be the height benchmark for the entire village, and no house built since has exceeded it. The side doors of the ancient houses face each other, separated by only a little over 1m. When all the side doors are opened, they form a passageway connecting the head of the village to the tail, allowing you to walk through the entire village on a rainy day without an umbrella. The alleys are straight and square, and the appearance of the houses is almost identical, so first-time visitors often feel like they have entered a maze. At the entrance of the village, there is a banyan tree that is over 300 years old and spans the river; under the tree is a place where villagers sit and drink tea.Zhangzhou · 27.2km from downtown

Sufeng Mountain towers over the eastern part of Dongshan Island in Zhangzhou. It is the island's main peak, with an elevation of over 270 m, and was historically known asDongshan or Chuanling Mountain. The mountain rises sharply from the coast, with lush forests on one side and the blue East China Sea on the other. Where the mountain meets the sea, it is a great place on the island to climb high and view the ocean. What makes this mountain famous is the island-loop road built around it. The road winds for over 8 km along the mountainside, connecting several observation decks. One of the most expansive viewpoints offers a simultaneous view of four bays: Jinluan Bay, Maluanwan, Yunan Bay, and Nanmen Bay. The iconic blue bridge section, which winds around the mountainside like a ribbon and sweeps across the cliff face, is known as the "Internet-famous bridge." It is a highly recognizable scene on Dongshan Island and has been featured in many film and television works. The route is also dotted with temples such as Sufeng Temple and theMazu Temple. Legend has it that the last emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty built the "Chuanling Imperial Palace" in the mountains, and the current Sufeng Temple was rebuilt on the site of that palace. Yanya Ancient Village at the northern foot of the mountain retains the original style of a fishing village, and the "Yanya Lovers" reef next to the village is a popular photo spot. When visiting, you can cycle or take a sightseeing bus along the island-loop road for a leisurely tour, or hike along the walking trails to take a closer look at the cliff scenery where the mountain meets the sea. The light on the sea is soft and layered in the early morning and evening, making it a favorite among photography enthusiasts.Dongshan County · 7km from downtown

Maluan Bay is located on the east coast of Ma Luan Village in Dongshan Island. It is a natural and beautiful bay. Its bay is in a crescent shape, with Mazu Mountain in the north and Chiyu, Touyu, Eryu and Sanyu in the southeast corner. Because the water in Maluan Bay is very docile, it does not have a reef, and wind waves are small, and the beach is soft and white. Yundongyan is located on the eastern edge of Zhangzhou, only 280 meters above sea level. From the foot of Yundongyan to the top of the mountain, it is almost sprinkled with boulders of various shapes and irregularities. There is a winding path for tourists to walk and climb. The mountains here are not high, and the elderly and children can also walk down, which is suitable for the whole family to travel together. In addition to many cliff inscriptions in the mountain, countless cave walls and stone chambers are also a highlight. Walking all the way, you don't know which stone crevice has a bright road, and there is a sense of novelty. When you climb to the top of the mountain, there is a wind rock on it, and it seems to be shaking slightly when the wind blows, and there is no danger. In addition, there are several stones standing on the hillside to form the "March Gorge". There is a spring in the valley. If the moonlight shines on the spring water through the stone cracks, the shadow of the moon in the water will be reflected on the stone wall, forming a three-moon circle. spectacle. But there are not many tourists who wait here until the moon comes out.Zhangzhou · 10.9km from downtown

An ancient city is a carrier of a place's history, culture, and customs. Zhangzhou Ancient City, bearing witness to the city's millennia-long history and culture, is a "living fossil" of Zhangzhou's ancient culture and a "living archive" witnessing the city's historical and cultural changes. An ancient city is a repository of memories, emotions, and nostalgia. In the ancient city, you can find the taste of your childhood, hear the everyday chatter of your neighbors, and feel the warmth of home. Here, you can see the historical accumulation of Zhangzhou, feel its cultural heritage, and find your spiritual home. An ancient city is an engine for a place's cultural tourism and economy. In the ancient city, you can taste authentic Minnan snacks, buy handicrafts and intangible cultural heritage products, and enjoy traditional operas and folk performances. Here, you can experience the city's cultural charm, enjoy its cultural benefits, and reap its cultural rewards. Zhangzhou Ancient City is one of Fujian Province's famous historical and cultural cities and an important part of Minnan culture. Founded during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, it has evolved over a thousand years and still retains many precious historical and cultural relics. The ancient city of Zhangzhou is characterized by a network of nine main streets and eighteen lanes, forming a complete and open spatial layout. The nine main streets are: Beijing Road, Xinhua Road, Zhongshan Road, Taiwan Road, Hong Kong Road, Macau Road, Shengli Road, Dananmen Road, and Buzheng Road; the eighteen lanes are: Shuqian Lane, Yuanwen Lane, Yuanwu Lane, Yuanheng Lane, Yuanli Lane, Yuanzhen Lane, Yuanchun Lane, Yuanzheng Lane, Yuancheng Lane, Yuanxiang Lane, Yuanrui Lane, Yuantai Lane, Yuanhua Lane, Yuanqing Lane, Yuanzhi Lane, Yuanren Lane, Yuansheng Lane, and Fuqian Heng Lane.

Nanmen Bay, a filming location for the movie "The Left Ear," boasts a colorful fishing village that contrasts beautifully with the azure bay, earning it the nickname "Fujian's Santorini." Online descriptions suggest experiencing authentic fishing village life in the morning, cycling along the embankment to chase the sunset in the evening, and possibly witnessing the "blue tears" phenomenon on the eve of the Lunar New Year.

I would call it a branch of the Jiangnan water towns of Fujian, a branch of Giethoorn in the Netherlands. Dozens of neat, orderly Minnan-style houses are nestled within the village, which is surrounded by a small river. The scenery is beautiful, and there are few tourists. In the afternoon, you can sit by the river and have tea, and in the evening, you can take photos in the village bathed in the glow of the setting sun – it's incredibly beautiful and pleasant! Plus, it's not far from Zhangzhou, and it's completely free!

During my recent trip from Fuzhou to Wenzhou, I discovered a hidden gem of a hotel – the Platinum Cloud View Luxury Hotel. The location is simply divine; it's right across the street from MixC shopping mall and within walking distance of Sanyang Wetland, making shopping, dining, and sightseeing all easily accessible. The Platinum Cloud View Hotel boasts a brand-new light luxury style, combining marble with natural wood. The lobby is quiet and sophisticated, completely free from the noise of the city center. I booked a high-floor room with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views. The sunset over the wetland and the city skyline were stunning, making for perfect photo opportunities. The receptionist was incredibly friendly. I was lucky enough to get an upgrade to a family room. The room was clean, spacious, and the latex mattress was soft yet supportive. The soundproofing was excellent throughout the night. The bathroom featured a separate shower and toilet, a smart toilet, and a 1.8m extra-large bathtub facing the view – soaking in the tub while enjoying the night view was incredibly relaxing. The toiletries had a subtle fragrance and felt high-quality. What I really want to mention is that the hotel's amenities exceeded my expectations: a heated swimming pool, gym, and self-service laundry room are all available, free parking is provided for those driving, and 24-hour butler service is available on call. The buffet breakfast deserves special praise! It offers a complete selection of Chinese and Western dishes, including local sticky rice, freshly cooked rice noodles, fish cakes, and wontons. After shopping at MixC in the evening, you can return to the hotel and take a morning stroll in the wetlands to breathe in the fresh air. It's a top choice for couples, offering much better value than other hotels in the same area. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Wenzhou! LL

This is Jinluan Bay Beach on Dongshan Island in Zhangzhou, Fujian. The scenery is quite nice. Unfortunately, the waves are too big for swimming; it's only suitable for playing in the sand. Going into the water is quite dangerous. Children can only play in the sand and sunbathe here.

There are not many developed mountains on Dongshan Island. Sufeng Mountain is a mature tourist attraction. There is a sea-circling highway on the mountain road, and there is also an observation deck. It is worth stopping to take a look at the scenery in the distance. Especially when you are at the highest point, you can see several bays in the distance.

Maluan Bay, located in the east of Dongshan Island, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, is famous for its white sandy beaches, clear waters and warm sea breezes. The bay is 2,500 meters long, 60 meters wide, 150 meters deep and 2-3 meters deep. It is the best of the seven crescent-shaped bays on the southeast coast of Dongshan Island and is known as the best beach. The beach here has a gentle slope, is delicate and soft, and walking on it barefoot, it seems that every step is in the clouds. The sea water is clear, pollution-free, without reefs, and no threat from sharks, so you can swim in it with confidence. Maluan Bay is not only a paradise for swimming enthusiasts, but also a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Here, you can experience a variety of water activities such as motorboats, speedboats, beach horse racing, beach volleyball, diving to see corals, kite windsurfing, etc. The natural beauty of Maluan Bay is also breathtaking. Sufeng Mountain in the distance is sometimes shrouded in clouds and mist, and sometimes clearly visible, adding a bit of mystery against the background of the sea and sky. Maluan Bay is even more charming at night. The beach under the starlight and the waves are gently blowing, as if you can hear the whispers of the sea. Here, you can enjoy the gentle breeze of the sea and feel the tranquility and beauty of nature. In addition, Maluan Bay also has a rich history and culture, such as the "Widow Village" exhibition hall, which records a painful history and adds a sense of historical heaviness to this beautiful bay. Whether it is a family trip, a gathering with friends or a solo trip, Maluan Bay is an ideal destination. Here, you can enjoy the endless fun brought by the sun, beach and sea water.

Yundongyan is the only national 4A-level tourist attraction in Zhangzhou City, a provincial scenic spot, and a provincial key cultural relic protection unit. It is known as the "First Cave Heaven in Southern Fujian", "The Second Stele Forest in Fujian", "The First Cave Heaven in Danxia", and "The First Stele Forest in Southern Fujian". There are more than 40 caves of various sizes in the mountain, and more than 200 calligraphy inscriptions in various styles from past dynasties; the altitude is 280 meters, and it does not take long to climb. In the morning, there will be many nearby residents doing morning exercises in the mountains. At the same time, you will see people carrying mineral water, drinks, and snacks on a shoulder pole to sell on the top of the mountain or on the mountainside; Yundongyan Scenic Area contains many small mountain attractions, such as: Yixiantian, Heqiu, Cliff Carvings, Crescent Moon, Qianren Cave and other attractions. It takes about 1.5 hours from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain, you can see a wind-moving stone, standing upright on the top of the mountain as a sign. Looking down from the top of the mountain, you can see the panoramic view of Longwen District and visit Zhangzhou. When you come to Yundongyan, you must eat the special salt chicken here. The chicken tastes tender but not salty, tender but not old, tender but not fishy. It is recommended to eat salt chicken at "Big Head Salt Chicken", which is about 500 meters walk from the scenic area.
