The panda base is a must-see in Chengdu. The pandas are so adorable. Unfortunately, the summer heat kept the pandas indoors, so they stayed put and slept. I hope to see more active pandas next time. The west section is large and well-protected from the sun, so it's not very well protected.
Enter by the quieter west gate. Fantastic wander around a huge site. Worth a walk to the East gate via every enclosure. It'll easily fill a day! Plenty to see and do. Mostly pandas. The red panda free-roaming enclosures are ace. This was my second visit and it was pleasing to see such a large-scale expansion and renovation. Well done to all involved at this amazing conservation site.

It is about 50 kilometers away from Chengdu, with convenient transportation and easy access by car. It opens at 7:30 in the morning, and the pandas are eating breakfast. But Panda Valley itself is good. The park is not big, the flow of people is not large, and it is cool and shady.
