The Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln and Folk Culture Expo Area, located at No. 1 Guyao Road, Cidu Avenue, Changjiang District, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, covers an area of 83 hectares and was designated a National 5A Tourist Attraction in 2013. As the only national-level tourist attraction in China dedicated to ceramic culture, it integrates the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, educational research, and cultural creativity. It comprises four core areas: a display area of porcelain kilns from various dynasties and a display area of ceramic folk culture.
Kiln Features
The area preserves 13 representative porcelain kilns from various dynasties:
Song Dynasty Dragon Kiln: Built into the mountainside, this sloped kiln boasts a flame path as long as 30 meters, achieving the pinnacle of blue-and-white porcelain firing.
Yuan Dynasty Mantou Kiln: Its double chimney structure innovated the traditional single chimney design of northern China, with a horseshoe-shaped kiln bed.
Ming Dynasty Gourd Kiln: A unique kiln type in Jingdezhen, its body resembles a lying gourd, combining the advantages of both dragon and mantou kilns and is featured in the book "The Exploitation of the Works of Nature." Qing Dynasty Zhen Kiln: Guinness World Record-winning "World's Largest Wood-Fired Porcelain Kiln," its egg-shaped kiln and through-beam timber frame demonstrate unique construction techniques.
Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Productive Conservation: The 72 ancient porcelain-making steps, from raw material preparation and hand-molding to wood-fired kiln firing, are fully preserved. Master-Apprentice Transmission: National-level intangible cultural heritage inheritors such as Wang Yansheng (pot throwing) and Yu Yunshan (luan kiln) teach their skills to apprentices.
