I came to Dakar on business, and my friend took me to the island in my spare time. The island is not far from Dakar, about 20 minutes by boat, and the boat ticket is about 10 US dollars. The island has some long history and unbearable memories. It was a famous slave trading center in West Africa during the colonial era. The small museum on the island records the sad history. There are still basements where slaves were once imprisoned, as well as defensive turrets. Due to lack of maintenance and government departments' negligence in management, many of the facilities at that time were dilapidated. The residents of the island used the basement for living, and the largest turret became the residence of a resident. The island is very windy and rough, the surrounding sea water is blue, many unknown birds are hovering in the air, and tropical flowers and plants are planted on both sides of the narrow streets. It is still very pleasant to stroll around casually.
