We took the cable car up, walked down, stopped and took photos, and checked in. It took about six hours. It was an in-depth tour. Every place was beautiful. Although it was raining, it did not affect the scenery. It was worth it.
Visited Jun 25, weekday, sunny weather. It was a little chilly, but as there were lots of walking and stairs involved, it got warm after a while. Recommend to bring a windbreaker/jacket regardless. You will first take a cable car up the mountain. To reach 五彩池 (the highest lake here), you have to climb up a good distance even if you opt to take the sightseeing bus after alighting from the cable car. Not recommended to go up if you are with elderly or children, as the other lakes below are equally beautiful. Either way, it will be a fairly linear walk downwards via stairs, with breathtaking views on the way. As you will be very high above sea level, be mindful of altitude sickness (might be good to buy oxygen canisters beforehand), and also sunburn.
