“Just got back from Luzhou, and I really have to say: I can't believe Sichuan is hiding such a treasure of a small city, full of the aroma of liquor, river breezes, and the warmth of everyday life!”@HistoricExplorer* · 15 hours ago
I’ve actually been to Chongqing 1949 twice — the first time by myself, and the second time I brought my friend because I wanted him to experience it too. And somehow… I cried BOTH times. 😭

The funny thing is, my Chinese isn’t good enough to fully understand everything they were saying, but the performances, music, acting and atmosphere were so powerful that I still got emotional. Definitely recommend getting the translation device though, because it’ll help you understand the storyline properly and make the whole experience even better.

It was honestly such an eye-opening experience and something very different from a normal stage performance. The scale of the production and the way everything moves around you is seriously impressive.

Highly recommend choosing the rotating seats as well — it makes the entire show feel so much more immersive.

If you’re visiting Chongqing, I genuinely think Chongqing 1949 is worth adding to your itinerary. I came twice and would still recommend it. ❤️ And if you’re planning to catch the show yourself, you can get your tickets here:

Would you travel all the way to Chongqing just for a show? Well, I did ! and honestly, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

I specifically went to the Chongqing 1949 Grand Theater because I HAD to see this mind-blowing production and its insane rotating stage for myself. I’d heard the buzz, but nothing prepared me for what it actually felt like to watch a show from a seat that *moves* with the story. This view is 🤯!

Set in 1949, right before Chongqing’s liberation, this performance dives deep into the city’s history by following people imprisoned for their beliefs during a turning point in China. Seeing it live felt like experiencing an immersive musical: epic music, next-level movement, massive sets, and wild theatrical effects all blending to tell the story.

As an artist myself, I was absolutely shook by the scenography. The way the sets morph all around you, and then both the stage AND sections of the audience rotate?! Your perspective constantly shifts. You’re not just a random spectator… you literally feel inside the story. No cap!

Here’s my top tip: If you can swing it, go for a seat in one of the rotating zones, Section A or B (I sat in A, so worth it). These seats might cost a little more, but seriously, rolling with the story is what makes this whole night unforgettable. Double-check the theater’s seating chart when booking, because some zones are standard stationary seats.

The show’s in Chinese, but don’t worry, the theater hooks you up with an English audio translation device (just swing by before the show and leave a refundable deposit). Pro tip: Arrive at least 30 minutes early to beat the crowd, grab your headset, and soak in the pre-show vibes.

Details you need to know:
Chongqing 1949 Grand Theater (重庆1949大剧院)
📍 No. 999 Jinbi Zhengjie, Ciqikou, Shapingba District, Chongqing
Important: Search for “Chongqing 1949 Grand Theater”
! it’s a different spot than the other well-known Grand Theatre downtown.

Highly, *highly* recommend catching this iconic show if you find yourself in Chongqing, whether you’re a history buff, a theater geek, or just love multi-sensory mega-productions. It’s your chance to see a piece of the city’s past brought to life in the most extra way possible.

Would you plan a trip just for a performance? Tell me your wildest theater adventure!

“Vientiane may not boast the towering skylines of Bangkok or Chongqing, but its charm lies in its perfect pace — old buildings, cafes, peaceful streets, the Mekong River, and a lifestyle that slows down just enough.”@นักท่องเที่ยวลูกอ่อน · 20 days ago
