What is a c2c Season Ticket?

A c2c Season Ticket is a type of personal rail card that gives you unlimited rides between two stations. You choose your A to B - for example, Leigh-on-Sea to Fenchurch Street or Southend Central to West Ham - and, for a set period of time, you can go back and forth between these stations as much as you like. There are no time-of-day restrictions, either.

Best of all, Season Tickets are much cheaper than individual single or return fares, making them a popular choice among commuters. Depending on the route, workers can save literally hundreds of pounds each year with a c2c Season ticket.

Why get a c2c Season Ticket?

  • Fixed travel budget: One payment covers all your trips for the duration you choose, meaning you won't have to worry about unpredictable last-minute prices and costly booking fees
  • Huge discounts: If you travel on the same route just twice per week (or 8 days per month), you could save 20% compared to booking individual fares. The more you use the trains, or the longer your Season Ticket period is, the greater the savings. It soon adds up to an eye-watering amount saved.
  • Flexible travel: With a c2c Season Ticket, you can board any service that runs your route, including during peak fare times, any day of the week. They're ideal for travelling to work during the week and for leisure at the weekend.
  • Easy train journeys: With a Season Ticket, you skip the queues for the ticket machine and breeze straight through the barriers, saving you precious time (and stress) in the morning rush hour.

Types of c2c Season Ticket

c2c Flexi Season Tickets

The Flexi c2c season ticket saves you around 20% and lets you travel on any 8 days across a 4-week period. It's a great option for hybrid workers who do 2 to 3 days in the office, as they don't have to pay for the days they work from home. During the football season, it's great for fans who regularly go to cheer on their team, too.

c2c weekly Season Tickets

As the name suggests, this covers you for a whole 7 days from when you start the season ticket. Getting a c2c season ticket is worth it if you plan to travel 3 times on the same route within the 7-day period. It works well if you're on a short training course or trying out a new job before committing to longer tickets.

c2c monthly Season Tickets

If you know you'll be travelling on the same c2c route at least 3 times a week for a month, then this is a great option - it gives you unlimited travel for a calendar month and is cheaper than buying 4 weekly tickets. Plus, it's a good middle ground if an annual ticket feels like too big an outlay upfront.

c2c annual Season Tickets

With the c2c annual pass, you pay for roughly 40 weeks and get 52 weeks of travel - that's 6 weeks free compared to buying monthly passes. Full-time Commuters stand to save a lot with this pass. Yes, it can be a big upfront cost, but it's worth it for the massive savings over time. It's usually refundable, too, in case things change.

Which c2c Season Ticket is best for me?

The right c2c season pass depends on your routine - and it can be taxing figuring out which one works best for you. The good news is that National Rail has a calculator that does all the maths for you. Just input how many days you travel and it tells you which ticket is best for you.

How to get a c2c Season Ticket refund

Season Tickets issued by c2c are usually refundable, which removes the risk from buying an annual Season Ticket. If, for whatever reason, your life circumstances change, and you no longer need to travel on your chosen route, you'll normally get your money back for the unused portion.

Luckily, with the Trip.com app, sorting a refund is hassle-free, though always read the terms first to know what you're due. Just bear in mind that with Flexi tickets, if you activate a day, you can't be refunded later.
