We’ve all been there – you’ve arrived at your destination by train and are going about your business when you’re suddenly struck by the realisation that you’ve left something behind. Whether it’s a shopping bag, an umbrella, or something more valuable like a phone or a laptop, there’s still a good chance CrossCountry will reunite you with your lost item.

Below, we’ll explain the steps for recovering lost property with CrossCountry and set you up as best as possible for recovering your missing item.

How do I get my lost item back from CrossCountry?

As CrossCountry does not manage any stations themselves, any items that are found onboard one of their trains will be handed in to the terminating station. As such, the first step you will need to take is to retrieve the contact details for the train company managing the station your train terminated at. Bear in mind, this is not necessarily the station you disembarked at, but rather where the train finished its route.

CrossCountry’s lost property page features a tool you can enter your train journey details into to access the operating company and phone number you should contact for the terminating station of your journey. If you’ve left your item at a station rather than on the train itself, you can also get the station details on this page.

The next step will depend on who is operating the station where your item was handed in. They may have an online portal for registering lost and found items, or you may prefer to call them directly. In either case, ensure you give your contact details and an accurate description of the item lost – if it’s a phone, mention the make, model, colour, case and background if possible.

It’s worth noting that lost property can take anywhere from two days to two to three weeks to be processed and ready for collection, so if it’s been a while since you reported your item missing, don’t lose hope.

Some companies also charge a handling fee for processing your lost item. This can range from £3 to £25, depending on the value of the item or how much storage space it needs.

Where can I pick up my lost item from CrossCountry?

Once your item has been tracked down by the company operating the station your train terminated at, you will receive details on picking up your item. This could be at the station your train terminated at, or they may move it along to another destination.

If your train terminated at London Paddington, for example, their lost property office is found at the Left Luggage desk near Platform 12. It is open Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30.
