Did you know you can get cheaper tickets when you travel during ‘Off-Peak’ times (or even ‘Super Off-Peak’) on Great Westen Railway (GWR) services? Off-Peak generally refers to quieter times on trains, usually avoiding periods used for travelling to and from work during the weekdays. So, if you’re looking to avoid the hectic rush hour and morning commute crowds, you stand to save a lot on your travels!

When are Off-Peak GWR times?
Off-Peak times for GWR depend on where you are taking one of their services. It’s also important to note that there are only rough guidelines as to when you can book discounted tickets, although these times are usually quite consistent.
As a rule of thumb, Off-Peak times for GWR trains are:
- Between 9:00 am and 4 pm on weekdays
- After 7:00 pm on weekdays
- Anytime on weekends and bank holidays
Despite the lack of specificity, you shouldn’t fear about being caught out. If you’re travelling at a Peak time (and booking your ticket then), you’ll simply be charged a Peak fare.
When are Super Off-Peak GWR times?
Much like Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak times aren’t always exact. However, you can expect to see even further reductions in fares for the following times on GWR trains:
- Between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm on weekdays
- After 7:15 pm on weekdays
Again, if you’re flexible with when you travel, we’d recommend checking for different times across the day for the best rates to find the best Super Off-Peak deals.
How to get Off-Peak GWR tickets
The best way to check whether your scheduled route is Off-Peak is to search within the above timeframe and see if it’s being offered at a discounted rate. You can also filter search results for your route by ‘Cheapest,’ where it is highly likely that Off-Peak results will be returned.
