That sinking feeling you get when you’ve left an item behind, expecting the worst: that you’ll never see it again – we’ve all been there. Not to mention how stressful that can be when the lost item is on a train travelling 100km/h away from you!

But there’s no need to panic – if you’ve lost something on a Merseyrail train, there’s a good chance you’ll find it again, as Merseyrail does everything they can to return it to you. We explain all the steps you need to take to be reunited with your lost property below.

How do I get my lost item back from Merseyrail?

The quickest way to start the process of reuniting with your lost item from Merseyrail is by filling out their lost property form. You can find the form here.

You will be asked to fill in your own contact details, identifying features of the lost item, and information about where and when you last had the item. There is a section for you to add additional details and upload a photo, which can be very convenient for matching you with your lost item. Include as many details as possible.

If you’ve left your phone behind, for example, it’s useful to have the IMEI number at hand (you can ask your network operator to provide you with this), and mention whether it has a case, and what background image it has.

Merseyrail will keep you updated on your query via the email address you provide, so you can know how the process is going. Items are immediately logged with Merseyrail’s Lost Property Department once they are found.

Merseyrail does not charge a fee for processing lost items.

Where can I pick up my lost item from Merseyrail?

It is open Monday to Friday, 07:00–19:00.

All items unclaimed after three months are donated to Merseyrail’s Charity of the Year.
