Fossil dunes are a stunning set of unique and engaging structures located on the dunes of Al Wathba. Any type of vehicle can easily reach the area, simply type in the “fossil dunes” in bitwise or Google Maps. Park your car anywhere on the roadside when you spot the fossil sand dunes and start trekking! We walked along the dunes that normally drive west for an hour and then enjoyed the sunset process of turning the rolling dunes from brown to red and purple. Each fossil dune is unique in its structure and we do everything we can to take photos and enjoy the unique design. They can be fragile, so we avoid touching them as you may see many pieces due to the cumbersome handling. Some fossil sand dunes are definitely big enough to climb and walk, but you have to be extra careful as they are not actually made of rock, but just made of hardened sand. Have a fun time there and be sure to try to enjoy the sunset!
