Chinatown (Yaohua Li Road) is located in the western part of Bangkok city and is one of the busiest commercial districts in the city. It is also one of the neighborhoods of Old Bangkok and has a history of nearly 200 years. Most of the houses here are relatively old, but the business is exceptionally prosperous, with almost all the operators being Chinese and overseas Chinese. It is connected by three main streets, Th Yaowarat and Th Charoen Krung, as well as many streets and alleys.
The Three Prosperous Streets
Among them, Sanpin Street developed earlier, while Yaohuali Road is a well-known gold jewelry trading place in Southeast Asia. There are gold shops everywhere here, although the storefronts are not large, they are decorated in a magnificent manner. It is said that most of the gold shops in Bangkok are located in Chinatown (Yaohua Li Road). In addition, there are bookstores and newsstands for Chinese language books and newspapers, as well as Chaozhou cinemas and Chinese cinemas. The Shilong Army Road is very long, built along the Chao Phraya River, beyond the boundaries of the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of over a hundred years and was built by King Mengji of Rama IV. Its scale and prosperity are among the top in Chinatowns across Southeast Asia. There are many shops here, offering a wide variety of goods from both the north and south.
Strong Chinese flavor
Here, typical traditional Chinese culture and customs of the Chinese community are preserved, and commerce is prosperous, attracting a large number of tourists from China and other countries. In Chinatown (Yaohua Li Road), you can feel a strong Chinese atmosphere, with many shops offering portraits of blessings, wealth, and longevity, and couplets posted on doors. Every year during the Lunar New Year, there are lively lion and dragon dance performances.
