Keyuan

Keyuan Garden is located in Maoer Hutong outside Di'anmen, Dongcheng District, Beijing. It was the residence garden of Wen Yu, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and is one of the best-preserved residence gardens in Beijing. Keyuan covers an area of nearly 100 meters long from north to south and 70 meters wide from east to west. The layout of the garden is very particular. The west road is a courtyard. There is an inverted house in front of the middle road. The front yard has a rockery, a pool, and plants and trees. There is a hall in the middle, and the backyard is surrounded by a corridor to form a wide courtyard for planting flowers and plants. The main buildings on East Road are the main building and the main hall, and there are rockeries in the courtyard. The architectural layout and form of Keyuan are very flexible, and the gardens of the middle road and the east road are connected by the veranda. The Keyuan Garden is a well-preserved example of a private estate in northern China. After the completion of Keyuan, several celebrities and foreign ambassadors to China lived and worked here, which has certain artistic and historical value.
