based on 24467 reviewsThe Mutianyu Great Wall, an important part of the Ming Dynasty's military defense system, features unique defensive structures such as double-sided battlements and the "Eagle Flies Facing Upward," which hold significant historical research value. This section of the wall stretches 5,400 meters along the Yanshan Mountain range and includes 23 watchtowers. Among them, the Zhengguan Terrace, composed of three parallel watchtowers, is a rare architectural layout within the Great Wall system.
The attraction offers two touring routes: the western route extends from Watchtower 14 to Watchtower 22, passing through the steep "Ox Horn Edge" and the uniquely shaped "Arrow Nock" section. The eastern route runs from Watchtower 6 to Watchtower 1, where the Big Corner Tower provides a vantage point for viewing the surrounding mountain scenery. Visitors are advised to take the cable car to Watchtower 14 and first explore the western route, which features more varied terrain. On the return, they can leisurely descend along the eastern route, with an opportunity to try the toboggan ride at Watchtower 8. Compared to some popular Great Wall sites, Mutianyu has better preserved the historical texture of the wall. The well-developed facilities within the scenic area offer diverse visiting options for tourists with varying levels of physical fitness.
