The Piece Hall

The most stunning and impressive attraction! The courtyard has been transformed into an inviting, open and accessible "town square", providing a modern and flexible space for scheduled seasonal events and festivals. Feature steps, fountains, custom furniture and lighting all contribute to a contemporary design language that is sensitive and restrained, enhancing the impressive architectural features and materials of the classical building. To enliven the space and overcome the changing water levels, two cascading water features were introduced at the northwest and southeast corners, subtly interpreting the historical importance of water in cloth production. Special consideration was given to nighttime economy to ensure the hall remains active, safe and attractive in the evening. The striking building facade has been illuminated by ground lights that extend into the central courtyard to help define the public space. The expressive lighting design redefines the public space and announces it as one of the most exciting nighttime destinations in town.
