"The Liuzu Temple is located in Sihui City, Guangdong. The original temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,300 years. Rebuilt in the 14th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty. The temple is surrounded by mountains, the mountains are steep and the scenery is pleasant. The Sixth Patriarch Huineng was the beginning of Lingnan Buddhism. Why did he take refuge in Sihui? According to legend, Huineng was voted under the sect of Hongren, the fifth ancestor of Dongshan Temple in Huangmei, Hubei. After being appreciated by Hongren, Hongren passed on Zen through constipation and gave him the mantle. He became the sixth ancestor of Zen Huineng. Hongren’s major disciple Shenxiu failed to get it. The master paid the mantle himself and was very unconvinced, so he gathered a group of disciples, wanted to harm Huineng, and regained his mantle. Seeing that someone wanted to harm Huineng, Hongren ordered him to go to Sunan and said to him before leaving, If you meet, you will be Tibetan" (Huai refers to Huaiji County today, more than 140 kilometers away from Sihui, Hui refers to Sihui City). Huineng hurried south with a mantle and Shenxiu sent people to follow him until Shaozhou (now Shaoguan City), and there were still people chasing him. After Hui Neng returned to Guangdong, remembering his master’s instructions, he went to Sihui. When he walked to Longtou Puzi Lin, he saw high mountains and lush forests, remote terrain and pleasant scenery. The villagers made a living by farming and hunting. He wanted hunters to live by Killing as a career, and often haunted in the mountains and forests, is the best place to avoid the enemy's tracking, so he found an Orion family surnamed Ye to live in, when Hui Neng was a young man in his twenties. After many years of asylum and hiding experience, Huineng personally approached the lower classes of villagers, which had a great influence on his later religious philosophy. It means that there is no need to recite Buddhist scriptures, and do not practice for many generations. As long as you put down the butcher knife, you can become a Buddha right away. The Sixth Patriarch Huineng also believed that "the lower people have the upper wisdom". His Buddhist theories all have unique insights from China's own religious philosophy. The new sixth ancestor Huineng Temple was rebuilt in March 1997. It took four years to build. The temple covers an area of more than 60,000 square meters and a building area of more than 5,000 square meters. There are Liuzu Avenue, Memorial Archway, Wind and Rain Pavilion, Free Life Pond, Mountain Gate, Heavenly King Hall, Daxiong Hall, Liuzu Hall, Tibetan Scripture Pavilion, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Gongde Hall, Yongsi Hall, Guanyin Hall, and Arhat Hall. Each hall enshrines the golden bodies of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The six ancestors' golden statues are kind, amiable and respectable, sitting in the temple, blessing the good weather in the world, the country is safe, the people are safe, and the life is good. In addition, there are also a dining hall, a supporting hall, a guest house, an abbot’s room, a monk’s dormitory, a square, and a parking lot. All the buildings adopt the traditional classical temple design with white walls, green tiles and red columns, which is spectacular. It is said that this is the largest, most magnificent and solemn among the many six ancestor Huineng temples in various places, and the only group of ancient temples and temples named "Sixth ancestor Huineng Temple". The Sixth Patriarch Huineng Temple is home to dozens of respected abbots and monks. Every day, the candle lights are bright, the incense is flourishing, the aura is transpiring, and the Zen is good for ears."
