Fujin City is located in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province and on the south bank of the lower Songhua River. It is a central city in the hinterland of the Sanjiang Plain. It has a total area of 8,227 square kilometers and a population of 469,000 (2013). Fujin is a national first-class open port city connected by railways, highways, and waterways. It is a key grain and sugar beet base in Heilongjiang Province, with a total grain output of 3.07 billion catties. It is one of the 100 major grain-producing counties in China. The "Hometown of Soybeans" and "The Hometown of Rice in Northeast China" enjoy the reputation of "The Food Capital of North China". The wetland park is home to red-crowned cranes, eastern white stork, white-headed cranes, white-naped cranes, whooper swans, and white spoonbills.
