Hongcheon County, Korea: A 3-Day, 2-Night Encounter with Nature and Culture
Day 1: Embracing Nature, Starting a Peaceful Journey
Upon arriving in Hongcheon County, our first stop is the Daemyung Vivaldi Park Ski World. Stepping into the ski resort, a silvery-white world unfolds before our eyes. The pristine slopes shimmer under the sunlight, resembling winding ribbons. In the distance, snow-capped mountains stretch endlessly, creating a picturesque contrast against the blue sky.
Equipped with skis, we eagerly head towards the slopes. For beginners, the beginner slopes are the perfect choice. Gently gliding on the snowboards, feeling the wind whistling past our ears, although our movements are slightly clumsy, every successful turn brings a sense of accomplishment. On the advanced slopes, professional skiers move with grace and agility, weaving through the snow like birds, inspiring awe and admiration.
After a tiring day at the ski resort, we arrive at the Hongcheon Buckwheat Flower Festival in the afternoon. As we step out of the car, a vast sea of buckwheat flowers greets us. Pink and white buckwheat flowers sway gently in the breeze, resembling a soft cloud resting on the earth. Strolling along the flower paths, the fragrance fills the air, refreshing the mind and spirit. Surrounded by tranquil countryside scenery, farmhouses dot the landscape, and occasional sounds of crowing roosters and barking dogs create a leisurely rural scene. There are also many buckwheat-based delicacies to enjoy, such as buckwheat pancakes and buckwheat tea, offering a perfect blend of nature and cuisine.
In the evening, we check into a traditional Korean Hanok guesthouse. The wooden structure exudes a subtle fragrance, and the tatami mats are soft and comfortable. Lying on the tatami, gazing at the stars through the window, we drift off to sleep in the serene atmosphere, anticipating the next day's adventures.
Day 2: Hot Spring Nourishment, Savoring Historical Charm
Awakening to the sound of birdsong, we head to the Hongcheon Hot Springs after breakfast. Stepping into the hot spring area, steam rises, and a faint sulfur scent fills the air. Immersing ourselves in the warm spring water, fatigue instantly dissipates. Surrounded by natural mountain scenery, enjoying the hot springs while admiring the changing seasons is a truly delightful experience. The hot spring area also offers various therapeutic pools, such as milk baths and rose baths, allowing for complete relaxation.
After leaving the hot springs, we visit Hongcheon Eupseong Fortress. This ancient fortress holds a rich history and culture. The tall and sturdy walls seem to tell tales of bygone eras. Inside the fortress, ancient buildings stand in an orderly fashion, with traditional Korean houses and antique pavilions, each filled with historical charm. Walking along the stone-paved roads feels like traveling back in time to ancient Korea. There are also traditional handicraft shops within the fortress, showcasing exquisite ceramics and rustic wood carvings, inviting visitors to admire and select souvenirs.
In the evening, we savor local specialties at a restaurant near Hongcheon Eupseong Fortress. The bibimbap, served in a hot stone pot, features plump rice grains and a variety of ingredients. After mixing it well, each bite brings a sense of satisfaction. We also enjoy Hongcheon grilled trout, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with an enticing aroma. After dinner, we take a leisurely stroll along the river, admiring the tranquil night scenery of Hongcheon County, with lights reflecting in the water, creating a dreamlike ambiance.
Day 3: Energetic Exploration, A Reluctant Farewell
On the third day, we visit the Hongcheon Waterpark for an energetic start to the day. The park offers a variety of thrilling water facilities. In the giant wave pool, waves surge one after another, and people cheer and scream, enjoying the fun of dancing with the water. Sliding down from the high water slides, feeling the double thrill of wind and water, is exhilarating. Besides the exciting attractions, there are also shallow areas and water slides suitable for children, ensuring fun for the whole family.
After enjoying the water park, we head to the Hongcheon Agricultural Products Market. The market is bustling with activity, showcasing a wide array of fresh agricultural products. Colorful fruits and tender vegetables exude enticing aromas. We can also taste freshly picked fruits, with their sweet flavors lingering on the palate. Here, we can purchase local agricultural products as souvenirs.
As the sun sets, our 3-day, 2-night journey in Hongcheon County comes to an end. This small town, filled with natural charm, historical heritage, and vibrant energy, has left a lasting impression. Every scenic spot and every culinary experience has become a cherished memory. We look forward to returning in the future to explore more of its beauty.
We enjoyed the day. It was a good experience as we love skiing!
Better than expected machine-made snow, kids had fun snowboarding.
The experience is priceless. It was my first time and I had so much fun 🥹 Would love to do this again!
It used to be convenient to have a free Ski Park Bus in Mingdong, a ski resort near Seoul. Skiing costs about 500 yuan a day, which is slightly more expensive than skiing in Beijing, but the supporting facilities of the ski resort are really comparable in China. The snow is also very good. The snow track here is very long. It can really be smooth.
In addition, there are ice and snow paradise, sweat steaming room and water paradise in the resort. It is not cheap to buy on-site, and it will be better to buy a set of tickets online. There is a 94 degree sweat steaming room, I also look, see someone out of the body smoking, ice and snow park has several good concave shape, and ski resort must buy a cable car ticket, otherwise it can only be smooth and boring.
enjoy snow and Snowly Land for a fun filled activity with your kids. they will love it. the scenery from the top will make your jaw drop.
The Daming Vivaldi Park ski resort on Jiangyuan Road is a very modern public ski resort. The slope here is very steep and the slide is very long. It's very exciting to slide down from the top of the mountain. And the snow is very soft and clean, skiing experience is very good.
