We had a wonderful day trip to Yanqi lake. It took us less than 1.5 hours to drive there on a weekday. I have been wanting to go to the Sunrise Kempinski building for years as it looks so cool and I have seen it many times while driving past it. Finally I made it. It’s actually super nice to see it from the side that is pointing towards the lake. We enjoyed a buffet lunch at the Element restaurant of the second floor of the hotel. A variety of different foods to choose from. After spending some time at the hotel we rented bikes and did a bike tour around the area. Very professional bikes and the bike renters even provided us with two guides and a medical person as we came in a group of 30 people. After biking for about an hour or so we ended our trip at Yanqi hotel where we had dinner at the restaurant called lake palace. Amazing food and the hotel looks fantastic from what we saw of the views of the lake and amazing lobby area. I saw children playing football. 🎢 No attractions nearby, no shops, very few restaurants. But it’s close to Yanqi river. You won’t be feeling bored but I think 2-3 days are enough. Yanqi Lake: Located 8 kilometers north of Huairou District at the foot of the Yanshan Mountains, it is a water and land area centered around the lake, with picturesque scenery and clear waters. Every spring and autumn, flocks of wild geese often come to rest in the lake, hence the name. Since 1986, the Huairou District government has continuously increased its investment in Yanqi Lake, and has successively built some scenic spots. It has now become a popular place for Beijing residents to relax and travel during holidays, and in 2000 it was rated as a national AAAA-level scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration. On November 5, 2014, the APEC summit kicked off at Yanqi Lake in Beijing, and in early May 2017, the 'Belt and Road' international summit was held. The summits have made Yanqi Lake's name famous.
