Birch Memorial Clock Tower is located along Jalan Dato Sagor, and is around 350 meters 5 minutes walk from Ipoh railway station.
This Victorian-style tower was unveiled in 1909. It was a dedication to the first British Resident of Perak, J.W.W Birch, who was assassinated on 2nd Nov 1875. The clock tower had one mother bell and four smaller bells, which used to strike the chimes of Big Ben.
Medan Selera Dato' Sagor is a food court located next to the Birch Clock tower and is opened daily from 0700-1700.
Masjid Negeri Perak is the state mosque of Perak, built and completed in August 1968, only a 2 minute walk from Birch clock tower.
A 2 minutes walk from the Birch clock tower, you will see the Ipoh town hall, which was built and completed in 1916.
One of heritage place at Ipoh. Food court is just next to it and walking distance to Concubine Lane. Recommended to visit!
A historical memorial at Ipoh. A nice place for a snapshot. However, Ipoh City Council should took after the tower better as lots of parasite trees began to grow. That tarnished a bit the value of that historical tower and the image of Ipoh as a whole.
The Huazhi Memorial Bell Tower, located in the center of Ipoh, not far from the City Hall, was built in 1909 to commemorate Bizhi, the first British colonial political department in Zhangzhou. Bisch was assassinated while traveling to Brazil in 1875 and died in office, and the tower was built and named in honor of him. The bell tower is engraved with murals of Buddha, Moses and Shakespeare, representing the development of different civilizations, the blending and tolerance of different cultures, and it is worth seeing.
A great reminder of the old time when this was the only way to know what time it was! I love the pairings around the clock!
It's one of the historical monument of Ipoh, overlooking the Ipoh railway station and the City Hall
