As a Cantonese, it was my first visit to Jieyang, and I found this small city to be quite nice, with a warm climate, affordable prices, and plenty of snacks. The first stop is to go to the must-visit Jieyang Academy in Jieyang, which is one of the three great academies in Guangdong. It was founded during the Southern Song Dynasty and has a long history with profound cultural heritage. The architecture here mainly combines the Ming and Qing architectural styles with the unique building style of Jieyang, giving it an ancient and classic charm, with exquisite wood carvings. The most beautiful time is at sunset, when the soft golden light falls on the vermilion walls, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. I happened to encounter a young lady dressed in Hanfu taking photos, so I snapped a few pictures. The outfit and the architecture complement each other perfectly, as if she had really stepped out of ancient times.

If you come to the Chaoshan area by plane, you will land at Jieyang (Chaoshan) Airport, and then go to your respective destinations. For us tourists, Chaozhou and Shantou in the Chaoshan area seem to be more famous, while Jieyang is just a transfer station, relatively niche. In fact, historically, as early as the Qin Dynasty, there was a place called 'Jieyang', which was the first city in the Chaoshan area to have a name! Although the ancient city of Jieyang is not large, it is also worth savoring. You can have a 24-hour or two-day and one-night journey through time. Itinerary: D1 Jinxian Gate—Jieyang Academy—City God Temple—Thunder God Temple In the afternoon, from the airport to the ancient city, you can stay near Jinxian Gate, which is within walking distance to several nearby attractions. After visiting the attractions, go for a beef hotpot meal. D2 Zhongshan Road Arcade Old Street—Ancient Banyan Martial Temple In the morning, try the Jieyang rice rolls (the rice rolls from the three places in Chaoshan each have their own characteristics, all recommended to try), topped with marinated sauce, paired with a bowl of soup, eat it hot and start strolling, and in the evening go to the snack street near the Martial Temple, and you can also check in at the cathedral. Recommended spots for time travel: Jinxian Gate Tower - As shown in picture 2 during the day and picture 3 at night, does it look more like Tang, Yuan, Ming, Qing? Go up to the second floor, and around 20:00 there is a local opera performance. Jieyang Academy - Pictures 1, 3-9, many young men and women dressed in Hanfu, beautifully shuttling through the ancient higher education institution of Confucius Temple with a history of 900 years. Jieyang Zhongshan Arcade Old Street - Pictures 14-17, there are many arcades in the Lingnan region, walking on the arcade old street of Jieyang, feeling the charm of history, exploring the traces of history. If you like the hustle and bustle, it is recommended to go in the morning or evening, there is more of a lively atmosphere!

Jinxian Gate. Jieyang Tower. Here, let's first clarify something. The three cities of Chaoshan, including Chaozhou, Shantou, and 👉🏻Jieyang! I've been longing to visit for a long time, and finally, I had the chance to check in at Jieyang~ The first stop is Rongcheng, starting from the old city area. Despite the rush of this trip, I still managed to visit a few must-visit spots 1️⃣ Jieyang Xuegong Revered as the 'Southern Confucius Temple', it combines the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties with that of the Chaoshan region, encapsulating the essence of a thousand years of Confucian culture. It has cultivated many outstanding talents over the years. Today, we can appreciate the exquisite layout of the entire architectural complex, rightfully known as the 'Pearl of Ancient Architecture in the East of the Lingnan region'. 🕘 Opening hours: Tuesday-Thursday & Saturday-Sunday 9:00-12:00 & 14:30-17:30 2️⃣ Jinxian Gate Located next to Jieyang Xuegong, it is named with the intention of promoting virtuous scholars and is one of the iconic buildings of Jieyang, holding significant meaning. 3️⃣ Jieyang Tower The new landmark building of Jieyang City, located near Jieyang's mother river 'Rongjiang', but the inside of the tower is not open to the public. ✨ Other nearby attractions: The City God Temple, Zhongshan Road Arcade Old Street, Shuangfeng Temple, Shishi Bridge, are all well worth a visit!

Jieyang Xuegong was established in the tenth year of Shaoxing during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty (1140 AD), and it has been nearly a thousand years since then. After 35 renovations, adjustments, and expansions from the Song to the Qing Dynasty, it has formed the current architectural pattern with the central axis as the Confucian temple, and the east and west sides as the county school and supporting facilities. The total area is about 20,000 square meters, making it the largest of all the academies in Southern China and one of the foremost in the country. During the period of the Great Revolution, Zhou Enlai arrived in Jieyang three times and worked in the Chongsheng Temple of the academy, which also made Jieyang Xuegong a base for revolutionary tradition and patriotic education. Jieyang Xuegong will also play a more significant role in inheriting the excellent traditions of Chinese culture and building a beautiful home in Jieyang.

Compared to Shantou and Chaozhou, I love this place more. Among the three Chaoshan siblings, the city with the least presence has given me full surprises. No crowded people, cheap prices, delicious food, blocks of old streets and houses. I only regret that I don't have enough time to stay longer. I hereby plant a flag for this treasure city of Jieyang, I must go back again! This city is too suitable for strolling slowly, there is a sense of life everywhere. Opening the map, I see all the old houses around, so I wander aimlessly through various alleys, turning around all day long. It's also great for taking photos, with ancient architecture, old arcades, cute old ladies and old men, it's simply a paradise for urban hikers like me. The people of Jieyang are very warm-hearted. The old lady on the street saw me taking photos and enthusiastically showed me the way and recommended places. The old man selling salted egg yolks let me taste them first to get used to the flavor before deciding, that simplicity is the most touching. I'm posting my route for everyone's reference, but I don't remember the names of many small alleys, just wander around at will. I didn't stay long and didn't eat much, so I can't make recommendations. Wait until I go again and have a good meal. Jieyang can be said to be the least noticeable niche city in Chaoshan. Compared with Chaozhou and Shantou, Jieyang ancient city is a bit clumsy in its original state. There are uncarved old buildings in the ancient city. But it is because of this valuable 'decay' Only then can you feel the traditional Chaoshan culture that is not available elsewhere! In the eastern part of Guangdong, there is an ancient city called Rongcheng, which is now Jieyang City. It has always had a developed water system, with rivers crisscrossing. In the past, Rongcheng's one canal, two rivers, three cellars, thirteen pools, and eighteen bends added infinite scenery to Jieyang's water town, earning it the reputation of "water gourd" and "water lily". Today's Rongcheng District is also the political, economic, and cultural center of Jieyang City, with a profound cultural heritage and flourishing humanities. Since the tenth year of Song Shaoxing (1140), it has been set up as Jieyang County, with a long history of over 800 years. The old city has more than 20 provincial and municipal cultural relics protection units such as Jieyang Xuegong, Jinxian Gate, Ding Richang Memorial Hall, and is a provincial historical and cultural city in Guangdong. Jieyang Zhongshan Road is located in front of the old county yamen, running from south to north, with a total length of 705 meters. In the 44th year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1779), it was called Xuanhua Street. In the 14th year of Guangxu (1888), it was called Dajie, and it was renamed Zhongshan Road in 1926. In 1926, Zhongshan Road was expanded to ten meters and covered with asphalt.
