【Kyoto·Ohara·Jakkoin Temple】
This is a sad temple, just like its name.
Jakko-in Temple was built by Prince Shotoku in 594 AD. In the 12th century, the daughter of the Taira family married into the royal family and became the noble empress of Emperor Takakura. However, in the war between the Taira clan and the Minamoto clan in the first year of Bunji, the entire Taira clan was wiped out, and she took her 2-year-old daughter with her. Her son, Emperor Endou, jumped into the sea, but she was rescued after his death. Later, she became a nun and lived in seclusion in Jakkoin Temple, where she lived the rest of her life miserable and lonely. Later, Jikko-in Temple became quite famous as a nunnery.
Almost all the buildings described in the famous Japanese novel "The Tale of the Heike" can be seen here as prototypes. The main hall, academy, and Benzaiten can all be used as a reference. It is really hard to imagine what kind of turbulent historical fate the historical figures in The Tale of the Heike experienced in such a quiet Japanese garden.
