3-Day Penang Itinerary in Malaysia
As a child learning history, I learned about the major population migrations in China, which included venturing to the Northeast, moving to the West, and settling in Nanyang. The charm of Nanyang has always been something I yearned for, and Penang is the first stop on my journey to the South Seas.
A 40-minute flight transfer from Kuala Lumpur took me to Penang, where I chose to stay near Shantou Street. Char Kway Teow, Jian Dui, Curry Mee, Hokkien Mee, Durian... truly a food paradise, there are so many delicious foods worth trying.
【First Stop】Street Art and Peranakan Museum
The ancient Nanyang-style architecture paired with interesting and lively street art is just perfect for a city walk. Strolling leisurely here, every snapshot is filled with artistic flair. Of course, I couldn't miss the most famous murals.
The Peranakan Museum, also known as the Penang Overseas Chinese Museum, is one of the most beautiful historic mansions in George Town, Penang, displaying the daily life of the prominent Zheng Jinggui family.
【Second Stop】Penang Hill
The highest peak in Penang, offering a panoramic view of the entire city. The most famous attraction of Penang Hill is the funicular train, which allows you to enjoy the scenic beauty as if you were in a comic book. Unfortunately, it was under annual maintenance when I visited, and I regretfully missed it. In the end, I had to take a jeep up the hill,
the winding mountain roads even had cute monkeys to see! Reaching the top, the view over Penang was breathtaking.
【Third Stop】Durian Farm
Penang is very famous for its durians, and if you like durians, you must not miss this! This is the most recommended part of my entire trip! There are many durian farms on the back of Balik Pulau. Find a farm with beautiful scenery, where you can eat durians and enjoy the view at the same time, it's simply therapeutic!
【Fourth Stop】Batu Beach
The beautiful sunset beach in Penang is perfect for relaxing in the evening. It's best to arrive at the beach at 5 pm to secure a good spot to watch the sunset. Waiting quietly for the sunset, the moment you see the pink and purple twilight, you realize that the beauty of this world is just so~
best experience with the train up to Penang hill , the view is incredible , the staff very helpful able to enjoy the foggy weather with the city and sea view from hill
It is my fav. place in Penang & a mist visit spot!Penang is a great city to visit while costing Malaysia anyways!
Malaysia's flag-raising mountain, also known as Penang Mountain, is located north of central Penang. The main peak of the west mountain is 833 meters above sea level, which is the highest point in Penang. It was named after British colonial times, when soldiers under the mountain used flag language to convey messages. This is a summer resort with the earliest Swiss-made cable rail system in Asia. The mountain is ecologically rich, with 2,456 varieties of plants and a variety of rare animals. Visitors can take a cable car or hike up the mountain to enjoy the wonders of the rainforest, the whole picture of Penang and the beautiful sunrise and sunset, and feel the beauty of nature and humanity.
It is worth seeing, there are many tropical plants inside and you can see the langur. The top of the mountain is very windy and you can see the whole picture of Penang. There is a heritage park that needs to buy another ticket. I personally think it is not necessary. You can choose an ancient road on foot up the mountain, free of charge. It is not expensive to take a small train up and down the mountain, 10 minutes drive.
Very good, the view is very wide, 60 MYR up and down the mountain, the top of the mountain is not expensive to eat and drink, very good
My personal feeling is that the Qingjing of Qishan and Taiwan are a bit different. Although the height is not as high as Qingjing, it can be seen through the whole island of Penang at a glance. However, there are a lot of mosquitoes on the mountain in summer. Remember to wear long-sleeved trousers to avoid going up the mountain to donate blood for free. More special is that there is a ground cable car up and down the mountain, the steepest slope is nearly 60 degrees, the slope and passenger capacity are not lost to the Taiping Mountain cable car in Hong Kong, which is a relatively novel experience.
Very artistic From the top of the mountain overlooking the panoramic view of George City and the magnificent scenery of the Strait of Malacca. The dense vegetation on the mountain, with many tropical plants and wildlife, is a paradise for nature lovers. The fresh air and cool climate (especially in hot seasons) make it an ideal place to escape the heat.
In Jetty Bas Terminal, taking the bus to the tourist distribution center under the mountain, directly to the window to buy tickets and take the cable car up the mountain is the most convenient way to travel, helping me save a lot of climbing time. There are ice cream sales on the mountain, as well as restaurants, amusement parks and many observation decks. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can enjoy the charm of the natural scenery, overlooking the Georgetown port terminal, Penang Bridge and city construction. Banner Mountain (Malay Bukit Bendera; Penang Chinese call it Banner Mountain; English Penang Hill means Penang Mountain) is located in the north-central Penang, the main peak is 821 meters above sea level. During British rule, senior officials lived here, and soldiers under the mountain used the flag to convey an important message, calling the mountain The flag-raising mountain, which is the origin of the name of the flag mountain. It is a common way to travel down the mountain by cable car. The first cable car was officially launched in 1923 until 1977. The new cable car was introduced from Switzerland from 1977 to 2010. The new cable car, which is now in use, was officially launched in May 2011, with speeds of up to 10 km per hour and up to the top of the mountain in four minutes. In September 2021, Penang, Malaysia, was listed as a UNESCO Biopark Reserve, becoming the third region in the country to receive this award.
