What people are saying:

The canal is also a very important means of transportation. It is very wide and after decades of combing and dredging, it now seems to be a very interesting area. The whole canal is very simple in structure, with some vegetation on both sides.

Additional Information

Introduction

Otaru Canal was built in the Meiji and Taisho periods, and although only half has been preserved, it is still full of charm. The Victorian-style kerosene lamps and the red brick exterior walls of the riverbank warehouses add an exotic feel to the place. Restaurants, grocery stores, and other shops are converted from warehouses and are popular choices at which tourists can buy souvenirs or eat local delicacies.
