This amazing UNESCO world heritage site was on my bucket list for a long time and When I had the chance to visit it, I took the chance to! glad I did as it was a such a a magnificent site, we went on a tour and was given ample time to walk the site ourselves. there is an audio guide you can listen to and you learn a lot about it from that already. it was the feeling of just being there and being part of history. when you are in London it is easy to book a tour and go, definitely a must visit!
Reasons to Recommend: It’s an amazing landmark. One of the wonders of the world and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. No one knows how this rocks ended there, but all we know is that they’re beautiful and mysterious.
In the English county of Wiltshire, just 13 kilometers from the city of Salisbury, there is an ancient megalithic stone structure as Stonehenge. Covered with many mysteries, it invariably attracts scientists, researchers and, of course, travelers. Even in the translation of the word "stonehenge" there are discrepancies. Someone is inclined to believe that it comes from the literal translation from English stone hedge, aka "stone fence". Others (referring to the language of the ancient Celts) translate the name of this place as "dancing stones". In 1986, this building was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.It is difficult for archaeologists to come to a consensus on the date of construction. This is due to the fact that the construction was divided into stages — approximately in 3100 BC, ditches and pits were dug for further installation of stones. Around 2500 BC, stones were installed in the center of the structure. Two types of stones were used, including sandstone boulders and bluestones, presumably brought from a 400 km remote area of Wales.
My soul is energised. I have always loved rocks. At abergowrie I loved jumping from one to another along the riverbeds behind our farm. I loved the colours and shapes you could get. That love has only ever grown over the years by seeing so many varing geological formations this fabulous planet has for us. #stonehenge is mind blowing. How did they move those ginormous carved rocks 19miles to where they stand today! And why go to all that effort?
The paper wristband is delicate. don't lose it even though you can not get on the shuttle bus. Café, shop, museums are available on site.
After a long journey thru train awaits bus on package to and fro to take us to the spot get us back to train station is too gud arrangement kuddos to tourism dept over there ..finally rchd this landscape which we used to see as display pictures on Microsoft windows display decades before amazing green landscapes with too chilled but heavy cold wind on the day I visited Stonehenge day went well and worth visiting place ...which is 1500 yrs old unesco world heritage site
what an amazing place, has a sense of serenity around it. We went in the evening which meant it was a bit quieter. Was surprised to see security guards there which apparently are there 24/7!
Very pleasant trip, Stonehenge is spectacular, human mystery unsolved, the surrounding scenery is pleasant, the traffic is convenient, the service is thoughtful, the sandwiches eaten at the rest station are very delicious, the weather is also very good, the photos are beautiful
