Getting There - Subway station (Yuyuan garden + about 10mins walk) or if you’re not too far, the area is very bike friendly!
Attractions - Beautiful area and yuyuan old street next to it!
Food & Restaurants - None when you’re in the garden area but plenty once you reach yuyuan old street.
A lot of fun and it’s absolutely beautiful!
A city tour to Yu Garden is a must when visiting Shanghai. The vibrance of the old buildings with some of the tallest skyscrapers in Shanghai in its backdrop is a great sight.
Walk around, sit n reflect, eat local cuisine, watch local activities and shop around. You’ll not be disappointed. 🏯⛲️
(Will visit again during evenings to capture some night time photos 😁)

Although Chinese New Year has ended, Yu Garden's colorful lanterns brought us right back to Lantern Festival celebrations! The garden's old street is adorned with artistic touches, such as the lights. It could easily pass for a bustling market from the Han or Tang Dynasty.
It has been 3 years since we moved to China. We took these photos in March 2018 July 2020 and I still feel like we just arrived 😄
Who would think that I would like so much to live here, now I already feel that Shanghai is my home ❤️
This were the first pictures we took when we arrived here. Yu garden is definitely one of the most touristic and interesting places in Shanghai. You can enjoy a beautiful chinese architecture and it is the only classic Chinese garden in the downtown area. This places was once a private garden for the Mint dynasty officials.
So imagine how much history this place have 💓
Travel tip, visit this place as early as you can! I have never seen a lot of people congregated in one place 😅

Yu Garden is located in central Shanghai’s Huangpu District, on a spot within the boundaries of former Old City. It is the only classic Chinese garden in the downtown area and was once a private garden for Ming Dynasty officials. The garden covers roughly two hectares and contains various rambling pathways, hidden pavilions, and classic flora. It is a good place to escape the bustling modern city outside. Take note of the hundreds of plaques and inscriptions written by well-known individuals, as well as the park’s collection of stone carvings. Yuyuan Bazaar, located nearby, is good to browse for antiques and souvenirs.
