Yushima Seido

Yushima Sanctuary is located in Yushima 1-chome, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, also known as Tokyo Confucius Temple. There is a stone tablet that is the birthplace of Japanese school education. Every year, many students and their parents go to the Yushima Sanctuary and the Yushima Tenmangu Shrine to make a wish, hoping to be admitted to the ideal school. Special pencils for exams are also sold here to help students stabilize their minds during exams. Many places in the sanctuary imitated the Confucian Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province, including Dacheng Hall, Xingtan Gate, Yanggao Gate, and Entry Gate. There are bronze statues of Confucius and four sages (Yanzi, Zengzi, Zisi, and Mencius) in the Dacheng Hall. The statues are very precious and are one of the three statues of Confucius brought by Zhu Shunshui of the Ming Dynasty when he went into exile in Japan.
