The Banpo Museum was built on the Banpo archaeological site located just east of Xi’an in the Yellow River Valley. The Banpo archaeological site has some 6,000 years of history, holding the remains of Neolithic settlements. Banpo is considered to have been a matriarchal society. Inside the Banpo Museum visitors can discover scenes reproducing daily life of ancient tribes. You can also learn about their unique system of entombment and their painted pottery. In one of the museum’s exhibition rooms, you can even see a replica of the famous “human-faced fish” pottery bowl. (The original is in the National Museum of China).
