Lyn 990929Anyang Yuanlin Scenic Area, also known as Yuan Gonglin, is located in Taipingzhuang on the north bank of Huanshui River, Shengli Road, Beiguan District, Anyang City, Henan Province. It is the tomb of Yuan Shikai, the first official president of the Republic of China. Yuanlin was built in June 1916.
Yuanlin follows the pattern of Ming and Qing mausoleums, adopts a combination of Chinese and Western construction techniques, with Chinese classical traditional forms as the main body and Western architectural style as the auxiliary. There is a hall in the front and accompanying halls on both sides, all of which are Qing Dynasty style buildings. There are three doors on the tomb base, and the iron gate in the middle is completely Western-style. It not only shows the "royal" style but also distinguishes it from the imperial mausoleum. It is an example in the history of Chinese mausoleum architecture and has high historical, artistic and scientific value.
The screen wall in Yuanlin is an eight-shaped large ridge building with a green brick hard mountain and a green glazed tile roof. It is currently one of the largest brick-carved screen walls in China. The archway is built with iron reinforced cement, which is very special. There is a giant stele pavilion in the stele pavilion, with five steps high. Inside, there lies a giant bixi, on which stands a bluestone tombstone with the words "Tomb of President Yuan Shikai". Jingren Hall was originally a place for worship, but now it is a museum exhibition room, displaying the "Yuan Shikai Exhibition". The iron gate of the tomb is a "mountain"-shaped three-entry gate, with a Western style, blue-white stone doorposts, steel door panels, and a steel-carved "Twelve Chapter Medals" on the gate.
In March 2013, Yuanlin was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
