A must see city and sight when in China. Tianmen mountain is truly beautiful.
Getting There - It’s fairly easy to reach Zhangjiajie (Hunan) by train or plane. Getting to the attraction is fairly easy. There are public buses going directly to the entrance.
Attractions - Tianmen Mountain and sights inside the park. The bended roads are truly spectacular and a must see. You can easily pay and take the cable car up to the mountain and walk around. Be prepared to climb around 999 steps either up or down depending on the route you want to take. It’s an experience for those who are eager.
Hotels - Zhangjiajie offers a lot of hotels close to various sites in and outside the city.
Make sure it’s a place on your bucket list. For more stories check out my IG richelle_lambert
I am staying on Yingbin Road, a 4 minute drive from the ticket office, therefore I got a taxi to the site for under 10rmb. I paid 232rmb for a ticket that included entry, a one way shuttle bus journey and a one way cable car journey.
The first attraction is the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ that according to ancient beliefs, links Tianmen Cave to the sky. It consists of 999 steps to the top that differ in steepness and gradient as a metaphor to the ups and downs in life. The view at the top is beautiful with a very refreshing breeze! You then take an extremely long escalator up to the top of the mountain. Here you are free to walk around taking the East or West route. I did both and it took about 4 hours. The views are honestly breathtaking. You can also do other things such as walking over the glass floor, taking a sky lift (25rmb) and visiting a traditional temple. The cable car journey home was amazing (it’s the longest cable car journey in the world!!) but the queue was painfully long - I queued for 2 hours.
I really enjoyed my day out here but as with most major attractions in China, I would recommend getting there as early as possible to beat the crowds!

It is seemingly almost every tourist attraction in China has a historic 🎎 incidence or belief attached to it. One such is this Heaven's gate (literal translation of 天门山), where you can see a hole door-like 🚪 whole that paves the way to heaven. It's naturally formed and provides a gateway to connect two different peaks. Near to this scenic area, also there is 99 bends road which adding another 9 lead to 999 which is considered lucky 🍀 during Taoist times. To complete this scenic area, you have to mix it up with cable car ride and hiking 🥾 involved; otherwise you'll be too tired to enjoy the view. The hike to the Heaven's gate takes about 30 minutes, a steep one, but totally worth it and you're walking in the Stairways to Heaven🧧 so you better do it though haha. #chinatravel #hikefreak
Tianmen Mountain is just in Zhangjiajie City. It can be reached thru the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car Station and it should be around 30 minutes ride directly to the top of the mountain. The ticket purchased includes all the rides in the park like the escalators and the bus-very convenient.
Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is named after the natural wonder “Tianmen Cave”. Tianmen Cave is not actually a cave but a hole in the mountain that formed naturally. It is often filled with fog so climbing the steps to reach Tianmen Cave will give a feeling of ascending into the heavens. During the cable car ride, you can overlook the 99 winding roads and beautiful mountain scenery. The bold can also take a walk along the glass skywalk and experience the thrill of "walking on air".
1.The summit of Tian Men Mountain is high above sea level, and due to the huge temperature differences between there and at the foot of the mountain, it is advisable to bring along some thick clothing.2. Many tourists have commented that the food sold along the mountain routes are not exactly considered as delicious and it is recommended that you bring along your own food.3.Due to changes in the seasonal weather conditions, the operating hours of this scenic area may change correspondingly. It will be wise to consult the scenic area office for more up to date information.
