Beigushan (北固山) was one of the highlights of my visit to Zhenjiang. It isn’t a particularly high mountain, so the visit is less about hiking and more about enjoying the combination of history, traditional architecture and views of the Yangtze River.The walk up is pleasant and manageable, passing old gateways, pavilions and historical structures along the way. As you get higher, there are some wonderful views across the Yangtze, which really give you a sense of Zhenjiang’s location beside this enormous river.Beigushan also has strong connections with stories from the Three Kingdoms period, making the visit particularly interesting if you enjoy Chinese history. Even without knowing all the historical stories, the setting and architecture are enjoyable on their own.Compared with some of China’s larger scenic areas, Beigushan is relatively easy to explore at a leisurely pace. I would definitely recommend including it when visiting Zhenjiang. Come for the history and stay for the view
